BLOG NO MORE?

I love blogging.

Blogging has given me an opportunity to express myself in way that I was never able to before its inception.

Sometimes my posts are really good...sometimes they are really bad, but good or bad, they represent what I am thinking at any given moment.

Blogging has been hailed by some as the ultimate method of spreading information around the world.

I'm not so sure about that.

I polled my Sunday School class a couple of Sundays ago and most of them (ages 20ish through 80ish) do not know what blogging is. Only a couple have read blogs and none of them (as far as I know) engage in blogging.

President BO is fond of blaming us "right-wing bloggers" for the troubles liberal representatives have had at town hall meetings.

There's no word on what mischief the "left-wing bloggers" have caused.

All of that may become moot, however, if legislation making its way through the Senate becomes law.

Senate bill S773, being revised and updated by West Virginia Democrat, Senator Jay Rockefeller, would give the president "emergency" power to interrupt and to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

You can read an excerpt of the bill and see for yourself what mischief IT proposes.

Its purpose is to give the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

According to CNET NEWS, "When Rockefeller, the chairman of the Senate Commerce committee, and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced the original bill in April, they claimed it was vital to protect national cybersecurity. 'We must protect our critical infrastructure at all costs--from our water to our electricity, to banking, traffic lights and electronic health records,' Rockefeller said."

At ALL costs?

That is chilling.

Has it ever occurred to them that when one of the "ALL COSTS" is liberty, that it is not worth ANY price?

Do they not get that?

Why not?

Do we Americans take this business of LIBERTY so lightly that we are willing to disregard the blood, sweat and tears that it took to establish and keep it?

Did the founders make a mistake in believing that the beat of freedom rages in the hearts of all people and has since the beginning of time?

When I kept a personal journal, nobody objected...even back in the days when my thinking was corroded by the rust of liberalism.

Why, when I put my thoughts online in a blog, has my freedom of expression suddenly become a matter of concern for the government?

Folks, there is a despotic, dangerous, diabolical thought process clouding the collective thinking of liberals in general and our present government in particular.

If a bill like S773 is not stopped in its tracks, we will soon blog no more.

I simply had no idea. They're really serious about this - if they can't cloak it in "Fairness Doctrine", they'll take the National Security angle???

frightening.

PLEASE keep us updated.

Any angle to crush the opposition.

Freedom of expression, when it is in truth, is a nuisance to those who hate truth or have an agenda that is being hindered by that truth.

When they say "our" they are thinking soley of themselves, 'We the People' be damned.

As they say In business, money talks. To date, Glenn Beck has lost 35 major advertisers. The misfits may continue to watch him, but who pays the bills after the advertisers have left? You can't produce a TV show with used toilet paper. Just a matter of time before Beck disappears too

Lone Ranger said...

The advertisers are leaving the Beck show, not Fox News. They aren't crazy. Fox isn't losing a penny in revenue. They could afford to run Beck commercial-free. In fact, that's a pretty good idea. As for the "misfits" who continue to watch Beck, he is beating even O'Reilly in the ratings, the network's number one show for eight years. And if he's doing that to O'Reilly, he's smashing all the shows on MSNBC, CNN, and Headline News like bugs. Playing politics with a product is a double-edged sword. People who don't like being told what they should be able to watch can just as easily boycott the sponsors who have left Beck. And judging by the ratings, there are a lot more of them than there are of the "misfits" who hate him.

They are VERY serious about this..
You might 'like' reading Greywolfe's link "Oklahoma Patriot" in my sidebar. It's pretty darned scary...it's the second post down, I believe..lengthy but important.

Long Ranger's right...FOX won't get rid of Beck.. FOX's numbers are skyrocketing past the networks and CNN and MSNBC's numbers are pitiful..."Sorry, Olbermann..." No WONDER he's so mad at O'Reilly!

Beck is important to democarcy; because of our TOTALLY lazy and dishonest, agenda-drive media, we'd never know the truth had we not the blogs and conservative outlets... Would that the Left had been raised respecting other's opinions, like America'd been all these years..they have to see the oppression!? who could not? But, they've been taught well.

Susannah: I'll do my best in my little corner of the blogosphere.

Tom: Being a direct descendent of the Saxons, I know all the Angles, but this is one I had not expected.

Bryan: You NAILED it.

Red: I love how the Democrats couch everything in "The American people want..." When they have NO IDEA what the people want, nor do they care.

Lynne: See "LR" & "Z" below. Beck will be there because Fox is in very good shape, ratings wise. Several advertisers have already reconsidered because of economic pressures from customers.

LR: & Z: See above. You are absolutely correct.

Where were all the right leaning bloggers when Tony Blair's phone calls to the US were being eavesdropped? It was good when a republican administration did this garbage but now that a Democrat is in charge your cry foul.

This is a fight your side lost Joe. They lost all credibility on this long ago.

Truth 101: Hey! I was right here! I did not like that, and I don't like this.

You want to accuse someone, you accuse someone else. Don't come around here saying I approved phone taps. I did not and I do not...not without a valid court order, anyway.

Anyway, I don't have a side, I have a principle...a set of them...and I live by them.

How about you?

Besides, these are two different issues: eavesdropping and disconnecting personal computers from the Internet are two very different things.

You're smart enough to realize that...aren't you?

Susannah said...

"eavesdropping and disconnecting personal computers from the Internet are two very different things."

Indeed they are. Oh, & if they're going to disconnect dissenters from internet, you might be guilty by association Truth, since you're here (& @ other Conserv. blogs) so much. 'Better watch out!! ;)

(Betcha hadn't thought of that, had ya?)

On a more serious note, what IS there to do about this?

Oh, & ditto everything LR said about Beck - though I've never even watched his show. I just know the guy has principles. Kinda like our friend Joe.

Joe said...

Susannah: We just have to keep putting the pressure on our representatives to let them know that this is, perhaps, a greater travesty than obamacare will be.

Truth 101: BTW, when your computer is taken over, or your access to the Internet is shut off, don't come crying to me. I tried to tell you it was happening and you just sloughed it off.
