NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY WORDS!

As you know, I do not allow foul language on this blog.

The rule, found in the side bar to the right, is simple: 1. Absolutely no foul language (including the use of asterisks). If you are not man or woman enough to control your language, you are not welcome here...go somewhere else.

But take heart!

I have not gone as far as the City of New York Department of Education

In the interest of "sensitivity" to the feelings of others, they have published a list of words and phrases that cannot be used in city issued tests.

They might not be the words you are thinking about.

Here they are:

•Abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, or psychological)

•Alcohol (beer and liquor), tobacco, or drugs

•Birthday celebrations (and birthdays)

•Bodily functions

•Cancer (and other diseases)

•Catastrophes/disasters (tsunamis and hurricanes)

•Celebrities

•Children dealing with serious issues

•Cigarettes (and other smoking paraphernalia)

•Computers in the home (acceptable in a school or library setting)

•Crime

•Death and disease

•Divorce

•Evolution

•Expensive gifts, vacations, and prizes

•Gambling involving money

•Halloween

•Homelessness

•Homes with swimming pools

•Hunting

•Junk food

•In-depth discussions of sports that require prior knowledge

•Loss of employment

•Nuclear weapons

•Occult topics (i.e. fortune-telling)

•Parapsychology

•Politics

•Pornography

•Poverty

•Rap Music

•Religion

•Religious holidays and festivals (including but not limited to Christmas, Yom Kippur, and Ramadan)

•Rock-and-Roll music

•Running away

•Sex

•Slavery

•Terrorism

•Television and video games (excessive use)

•Traumatic material (including material that may be particularly upsetting such as animal shelters)

•Vermin (rats and roaches)

•Violence

•War and bloodshed

•Weapons (guns, knives, etc.)

•Witchcraft, sorcery, etc.

Certain words stand out in my mind as I read this mindless list.

"Pornography" and "sex."

Turns out that a part of the middle school curriculum in NYC is the study of sex and pornography (I'm not certain why those are a part of the curriculum, but they are).

So how does NYC give a test on a subject without using the very words that the subject is about?

‘Halloween’ is targeted because it suggests paganism (I'm a dyed in the wool, hard-nosed, Christian, and I still say, "so what?").

A ‘birthday’ might not be happy to all because it isn’t celebrated  by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

See, as has been noted on this blog before, the problem is liberals lead with their emotions, and don't give a whit about facts, truth, honesty or integrity.

They think that we can develop a world in which nobody ever has to be uncomfortable about anything, ever, for any reason.

That's why they suggest things like not keeping score at a children's soccer game. There can be no such thing as winning, because that means there must be losing and losing is bad for one's self esteem.

Uncomfortable.

'Course, when kids grow up and discover that the "real" world doesn't give a rat's behind about their poor little self-esteem, they get a rude awakening and are not prepared to deal with the idea.

Can some of you liberals tell me: Is there any end to this abject nonsense? Ever?

Will you please list for me the areas of life over which you think government should not have any control?

So they want the test language to be as neutral as possible. Makes sense to me.

Tempest in a tea pot, Joe.

If you are the religious Christian Conservative that you make yourself out to be, just out of some morbid curiosity, why don't you like liberals, democrats, progressives?

I always thought that religious Christian Conservative were people who loved everyone equally.

So just to be fair and all why all this asinine concern over offending people who use language that's not to YOUR liking?

These are standardized tests used citywide. The original article from NY Post said other states have lists for their standardized tests but NYCs is longer. NYC has a more diverse population than most places. Standardized tests are supposed to measure critical thinking, problem solving and involve, mostly, reading and math. Proficiency in Sex Ed isn't a standardized requirement.

The real culprit for this kind of thing is the No Child Left Behind Act. Since funding is tied to these tests, it puts enormous pressure on schools to get the best results they can. So, as Ducky said, make the language neutral to avoid any distraction. Wouldn't want Creationist Timmy to be thrown off by a math word problem about dinosaurs.

These ridiculous lists are a product of the ridiculous policy that has a schools future, and everyone working there, dependent on the results of a standardized test.

Craig: I'm beginning to catch on.
Everything bad that has ever happened in this country is the result of Republicanism.

Examples: The Emancipation Proclamation; Overturning of Jim Crow; etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum.

Now I understand.

Thank you so much for clearing that up.

(Funny...I took standardized tests when I was in high school - 1959. Had to to graduate. I was thinking they had been around a long time. Silly me.)

Where did you get that idea?

"So just to be fair and all why all this asinine concern over offending people who use language that's not to YOUR liking?"

What does that even mean?

Are you capable of coherence, or were you educated in government schools?

This is just another example of what's wrong with government schools, and why our kids don't learn anything useful any more. They are taught sex, sex, sex, and more sex; and multiculturalism, diversity, homosexuality and everything else politically-correct, and don't forget the self-esteem.

You forgot evolution, Chatsworth.

Those tests evaluated the student. Now they are used to evaluate the school. Kids are being taught to the test. I didn't mention Repubs. NCLB was a bipartisan mistake.

You forgot evolution, Chatsworth.

And lots of climate change.

Jehovah's Witnesses reject Birthdays all holidays,Thanksgiving even benign Mother's day.
The Watchtower leaders want to be 'different' for the sake of being different.Jehovah's Witnesses are a dysfunctional group from the get-go .
Christmas-Jesus was not born on exactly Dec 25th,but he also did not have his *invisible* second coming in the month of October 1914,a falsehood that is the core doctrine of the Watchtower religion.

How do you like these apples?
PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) - Seven black teens have been arrested on suspicion that they committed a hate crime when they attacked a 15-year-old Hispanic boy while he was walking home from school in Southern California, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

The March 14 beating in Palmdale was captured on video and posted on YouTube, but has since been removed from the site. The seven boys, ages 13 to 16, were arrested Wednesday for investigation of assault and committing a hate crime, Lt. Don Ford said.

The attack happened near Cactus Middle School, but Ford didn't know if any of the teens involved were students there.

The video shows as many as 10 boys surrounding the victim and challenging him to a fight. The suspects then began hitting the teen while others watched.

During the beating, the teens made racially derogatory statements that were captured on the video, Ford said.

After the victim fell to the ground, the assailants kicked him multiple times in the head, knocked out several teeth and left shoe impressions on his skin, Ford said.

The victim was able to get to his feet and escape the onslaught, and will need to undergo dental surgery.

The teens who were arrested were identified from the video, which was discovered by a Palmdale sheriff's deputy and has been retained for evidence. Authorities are not releasing the video.

Police are seeking three more suspects.

An arraignment date has not been set yet.

How did this post on the absurdity of political correctness and the left's fondness for limiting our free speech right become a debate on Christianity?

What???

No, there is nothing in the Bible that commands people to love sinners. Nor is there anything in the Bible about God helping those who help themselves or waiting an hour after eating before going swimming. Perhaps you think those things because you have never read the Bible and don't know the first thing about Christianity. Now, THAT is asinine.

As for why conservatives don't love liberals, democrats, progressives? They are honing sin into a science.

As a long time reader of this blog, and one who has very seldom commented here, I know that you and your team of conservatives buddies have been very critical of the policies of president Barack Obama and the Democratic party. I have been taken aback by the sheer viciousness of the attacks on him that have come, not just from the nutcases who comment here as well as yourself, but from the very leaders of the Republican party.

The anti-Obama rhetoric that pours out of the mouths of you people especoally from the Lone Ranger, Knuckelhead, the Darth of Bacon as well as from yourself Joe-Joe, and the party candidates like Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney is way over the top . And as Americans you all should be ashamed of the way that you act.
The rants about how Obama and his family vacations, and how they act is nothing more than jealous and selfish stupidity. In addition, there have been some extraordinarily crude and blatantly racist things that have been said about Obama, that I as an American resent. Party loyalty is one thing but these vicious lies are another. I think that you Joe and your fellow Republicans have all gone COMPLETELY OFF THE DEEP END.
You rip him to shreds even without the slightest reason.
I supported Mr Obama over Ms Clinton in the 2008 primary mainly because I thought he would be stronger on civil liberties, and he has not let me down.

Thank you for your time to allow me to express my feelings.

And another thing,
It simply amazes me how you people can sit there and condemn people for siding with Treyvon Martin and how “badly” we’ve treated George Zimmerman. Yet with the same tone you condemn people who are siding with Treyvon Martin.. Sounds like a double standard too me.
Trayvon Martin was visiting family in the neighborhood. No one disputes that. Being suspended from school, or smoking some marijuana doesn’t justify a bullet in the chest or a death penalty. Am I the only one who watches law and order? thing called the Constitution.
And where is it written that if if a young black kid in a hoodie is walking around an all-white neighborhood at night, he’s about to rob someone or some place!!!!!
What I really think happened is that Zimmerman, the wannabe cop can’t differentiate between a black kid he’s never seen before and a real criminal. He ignores instructions to not pursue Martin but to kill him in cold blood.

Joe said...

L4A12: Aimmerman shot Trayvon, and for that the incident should be completely investigated. If there is EVIDENCE that the shooting was unwarranted, then there should be an arraignment, charges filed, a trial and either an aquittal or a conviction, based on the facts presented in the trial.

That's the way it works.

A mob of people (black or white), the media and/or anybody else should not be marching shouting things like "Conviction!"

As in the previous cartoon from Alice in Wonderland (as well as from Law and Order), that's not the the sequence.

As for President BO (the child president), his skin color has nothing to do with his policies.

I was for Condi Rice (black and a woman) and Herman Cain (black, also).

So don't come around here with your inane lectures that serve only to spread race hatred.

If you have something coherent and intellectually honest to say, have at it. Otherwise, go jump in front of a parked car.

L4A: Telling you to jump in front of a PARKED car is hateful?

You prove my point about liberals. You lead with emotions, not fact.
