I'VE BEEN THINKIN'

During my time away, I've had some time to think.

I think I have been wrong.

Until my "time off," I thought it was worthwhile to engage certain people in conversation and debate about how to solve such problems as government intervention into our lives, the high price of gasoline, truth versus factoids and quasi factoids.

Now I realize the futility of such efforts.

Believing they possess a superior intellect, they look down their noses at people who disagree with them as having an inferior one.

They do not recognize principles, but prefer to deal with minutia, as though that somehow overrides the principles. And they do not apply their attack of the minutia with any sort of even handedness.

An example of that would be their concept of "freedom of speech.'

It is OK for Bill Maher to call certain women some of the most vile, uncivilized, filthy names on the planet, but for Rush Limbaugh to ask what one calls someone who wants her contraception paid for (thus enabling her and others to "safely" engage in sex more often) and then answers the question with the suggestion that one would call such a person a "slut" is just the lowest of the low.

When asked, Bill Maher then said, "There's a difference!"

That's all the explanation he gave, but "There's a difference!" is supposed to suffice because it came from his superior intellect.

Freedom of speech only applies to liberals, not to conservatives.

Mostly, freedom of speech means liberals can use vile language every third word in their sentences and no one should care. They see vile language as evidence of their great intellect.

They never understand the Constitutional principle: People are free to verbally attack the government without fear of repercussion from the government.

Until my "time off," I thought that our mutual desire was the pursuit of some kind of common ground, at least, and truth at best.

Turns out that liberals are not the least bit interested in truth...they don't even believe it exists.

If you present them with evidence that the earth has always gone through periods of heating and cooling, even before the industrial revolution, and that those periods are more related to solar events than to man made ones, they ignore the facts and plough on ahead with their castigation of mankind.

Show them that the price of crude oil is set by OPEC, for the most part, and the price of gasoline is set by what speculators believe will be the future supply thereof, relative to demand, their superior intellect leads them to attack the "law of supply and demand."

Present statistics showing that capitalism has produced help for more people in need than all of the government programs ever designed, and they'll have a hissy fit trying to say that their taxes are used to help poor people, therefore they are as giving as capitalists are.

They completely miss the principle that an able bodied person should actually have to work to earn a living, go to college, drive a car, own a home, engage in sex, take care of himself and seek his own dreams freely.

One other thing I thought about while I was "off:"

Joe - First and foremost - let me say - and I just know I speak for ALL of yer commenters -

WELCOME BACK.

And you Really have been thinking -Joe.

And what a Great post you have written here. But that doesn't surprise me - Joe - because you are so Smart. And everything you say in your post is pretty much true - Joe - except anything that you say negative aout Liberals. And if I were you - I would never allow Bill Maher to comment on your Blog - that worthless p**c*
of tr*sh. You should hear the awful things he says on his show - every Friday Night on HBO at 10 pm - ET. The name of his Show is
Real Time With Bill Maher. But NO ONE WATCH THIS SHOW - because of the bad things he says.

And it's Really not that funny - anyway. Not as funny as when you -Joe - write funny stuff on yer blog - which - IMHO - is top notch.

And BTW - JOE - how is your new hip? I hope you are not in too much pain.

Have a good one Joe - and thanks.

The usual suspects are at it again playing their race cards.Obama will never let a good crisis go to waste.
Do we no longer trust the Grand Jury process? Or did we only trust it when OJ Simpson was on trial?
Where is George Zimmerman's civil rights, when we see the Black Panthers, Spike Lee, the NAACP, Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, and the President of the United States already saying that he's guilty?
And all the rest of the racists in America already deciding he is guilty!
How can he get a fair trial when The Race-Card president speaks out against him?
And how come Obama and Holder don't speak out against what the the Black Panthers are doing?
How can he get a fair trial when Spike Lee, Holder, Al Sharpton and the Black Panthers stirs up the lynch mob along with the other race hustlers?
The New Black Panthers are no better than and reminiscent of the KKK.....

Joe said...

Timothy Rieds Thoughts: I have had the same thoughts about this case.

Not one black leader I've heard has called for a fair trial by a jury of Zimmerman's peers. They have only squeeled like the GEICO pig to have him arrested and convicted.

He is guilty, whether tried or not.

Imagine if the colors had been reversed.

WHERE WAS OBAMA HERE?

Teens set kid on fire for being 'white boy'
MEENA HART DUERSON

Sunday, March 04, 2012

A 13-year-old boy who police say was doused with gasoline and lit on fire last week while walking home from school is recovering from first-degree burns to his face and head.

The boy was just two blocks from his home in Kansas City Tuesday when two teenagers began to follow him and then attacked him, his mother, Melissa Coon, said.

Police have described the suspects as black 16-year-olds, while the victim is white.

I guess the White Boy" didn't remind Obama of his Son!

Look what transpires when they profess hubris like that with me - be they Liberal Libruls or Conservative Libruls?

These 'debates', as you so generously call them, are merely a set of serial remonstrations between two ill-informed opinions with copious amounts of words flitting about hither and thither but with no communication managed.
Is this futile, perhaps, but do I not cause these Libruls to rue the day they encountered me?
Therein lies the true joy of the 'debate'.....

Ego destruction!

"......They completely miss the principle that an able bodied person should actually have to work to earn a living, go to college, drive a car, own a home, engage in sex, take care of himself and seek his own dreams freely......"

Sheesh, now that you have that new appliance of yours you are now down on all the poor cripples? "An able-bodied person should have to work to engage in sex"? Can the disable-bodied folks still get it without working?

I don't think it's OK. He called her the C word in his stand up act. He was free to say it and anyone in the audience was free to leave. Anyone was free to protest his show, free to boycott the venue, free to call him out on his speech. His PI show on ABC was cancelled when people protested his comments about the 911 attackers. That's how it works.

I don't think Bill Maher is funny. I don't subscribe to HBO and I wouldn't go to his show.

Rush was free to say what he said. He's not free from criticism. If consumers want to let his advertisers know they don't appreciate their association with him, they're free to do so. The co.s that pulled their ads made a business decision, just like they did when they advertised on his show in the first place. Free enterprise, Joe. Rush is free to say whatever ignorant thing he wants about Sandra Fluke, he's not free from any consequences.

I understand why people are offended by Maher's words. That you would defend Rush's 3 day verbal assault on a private citizen for testifying to Congress says volumes about you.

This isn't a Freedom of Speech issue. The govt. hasn't abridged Rush's rights. Rush is still free to spew. Whether he can continue to do it on the radio is up to Clear Channel, his advertisers and the stations that he's on.

That is the Constitutional principle, no?

No one denies periods of heating and cooling in the past. I'd like to see the facts on those solar events. Milankovitch cycles and catastrophic events like super volcanoes and asteroid strikes accounted for major changes in climate.

It has nothing to do with your intellect, it's a lack of information. Solar events? you have no idea what you are talking about on this subject. If you want to know something about what you are denying, try this. It probably won't change your mind but you'll at least know what your against.

A lot of minutia at that site but it's the principle of having some knowledge of what it is you don't believe.

their superior intellect leads them to attack the "law of supply and demand."

When supply is up and demand is down in the U.S. but the price of gas continues to rise, the "law of supply and demand" doesn't apply. What makes you think more oil drilled here will stay here?

They completely miss the principle that an able bodied person should actually have to work to earn a living, go to college, drive a car, own a home, engage in sex, take care of himself and seek his own dreams freely.

What principle is it that redistributing vast amounts of money upward to the "job Creators" has actually lead to anemic job growth, a global recession then massive job loss. The same principle that allows you to complain about high unemployment then blame those out of work for being lazy and shiftless. Screw those leeches, eh?

Just some thoughts.

If you consider the market to be the entire world, that which happens in part of the market(the USA) is balanced elsewhere(the rest of the world) - maintaining the market-wide search and attainment of equilibrium.

Assuming Mr. Bush isn't still screwing with the market like he did in the summer of 2008.

tLast weekend, there were 10 people shot to death and 33 others wounded in Obama's adopted hometown of Chicago. Not a peep out of Obama or Reverend Al or Reverend Jesse. One of the dead was a six-year-old girl. I'm betting she looked like Sasha and Malia. She was killed by black gang members. Not a peep about black-on-black crime. Back on Valentine's Day of 1929, seven men were shot to death in Chicago. It not only made the front pages, it made the history books. It was called a massacre. Today, massacres greater than that occur every week in Chicago. And they barely make the news, much less than the history books. Only a liberal could be cynical and hard-hearted enough to turn a blind eye to this violence to protect their demi-god leaders.

You cannot talk to such people. You cannot reason with such people. You cannot change their hearts and minds, because they have neither.

Exactly. Joe seems to think that if we drill more in the U.S., it will increase supply here. Gasoline is the U.S.'s #1 export.

Ducky's here said...

Well Joe, since your rehab is going well I won't hesitate to respond to this latest idiocy.

But before we get to far, you seem to have picked up another fringe right wing Libertarian. One Timothy Reid who is going all Kumbaya over poor George Zimmerman.

Let me remind Mr. Reid that leftists post on Joe's board and we are here to help the fringe right live the life of the mind.

Now the significant point that everyone leaves out in the Treyvon Martin case is that at the time of the shooting the crack Florida cops performed NO INVESTIGATION. An unarmed boy is shot and killed and NO INVESTIGATION. Got it so far Tim or should I go slower?

So several black radio hosts pick up the case and ask questions. Now the poo is in the fan and we have all kinds of parties jumping in but the one thing you right wing stooges refuse to ask is WHY NO INVESTIGATION at the crime scene?

Now we are hearing stories of revised police reports and all kinds of accusations. And we don't know anything for sure.

But maybe we do know something. It seems that right wing gun loons like yourself are more concerned with maintaining the "stand your ground" statute than learning the truth in this case. So don't give us the tone.

Ducky's here said...

Let's all help Timmy get a grip and remind him that there are leftists here on the board and we don't run and hide when the fringe right start with a few news clips they heard on rabies radio.

Again, Timmy, there is a big difference between the KC case and Treyvon Martin. In Kansas City a proper investigation was held and ARRESTS WERE MADE.

In Treyvon Martins case there was NO INVESTIGATION even though a young man was killed.

Git it? Now, do you hear a sound, Timmy? Those are your cornermen yelling, "Stay down. Stay down."

Ducky's here said...

Joe, may I second, Craig?

I don't find Maher's comments okay and I never listen to Maher primarily because he is often uncouth.

That said, at least Maher went after a prominent personality. Stuff like that has always happened to celebrities.

Yours and Timmy's and Tonto's Catcher's hero, "Talent on Loan from Synthetic Morphine" Limbaugh went after a college student and kept beating the drum for three days.

Happy to be of service! Live long, and prosper!”

As an aside, Joe, remember that Marx saw capitalism as a necessary step towards socialism.

He didn't count on the ability of Kapital to maintain total control to the detriment of so many.

tLast weekend, there were 10 people shot to death and 33 others wounded in Obama's adopted hometown of Chicago.

When you can show me one of those perps who were sent home after shooting an unarmed person on their word it was self defense, then I might see you have a clue.

Not a peep out of Obama or Reverend Al or Reverend Jesse.

I know the Rev.'s have spoken out numerous times on crime in black neighborhoods. Obama has talked about "black on black" crime at least as much as the previous 43 presidents, combined, have talked about "white on white" crime. What expectations did you have for the darkie pres.?

Lone Ranger said...

Ummmm, Craig. They were not only not sent home, they were NOT caught. I realize that lynch law is the province of democrats, but I thought the human race had moved beyond that. Apparently, democrats still cling to their 20th century crimes against humanity.

Ducky's here said...

Tonto's Catcher, for the K.C. case to be equivalent the cops would have had to questioned the perps, asked them if they had felt threatened and when they said "yes" let them go.

Please buy a vowel or something. You are embarassing yourself.

Joe said...

Craig: "That you would defend Rush's 3 day verbal assault on a private citizen..."

See, if liberals would learn to read what is actually written instead of reading into things what they think or wish it said, they would do well.

I never defended him. I just pointed out the discrepancy in the way liberals and conservatives are reacted to by liberals.

You might construe that to mean that I though what he said was wrong.

I didn't say that, either.

I simply did not comment on his comment.

XO: "Didja miss me?"

In exactly the same way I miss my arthritic hip.

LR: The funny thing is, they don't realize that they are fulfilling exactly what you and I predict about them.

They don't actually read, they surmise and imply based on their emotions, rather than their superior intellect.

Craig said...

It was before the anesthesia, but you had two posts implicitly referring to Fluke as a slut even though she didn't talk about her own sexuality in her testimony except to say she had used birth control. You also falsely claimed the govt. paid for her birth control and her education. Regurgitating Limbaugh is affirming his creepy accusations (did you want to see the sex tapes, too?). Sounds like defending to me.

Xavier Onassis said...

Oh, c'mon Joe! You are pain free! The future is bright! Can you not find it in yourself to thank The United States Government's Medicare and/or Medicaid plans that made your surgery attainable?

In a true, Free Market, Capitalist system you would still be selling pencils for pennies on a street corner like a Bangladesh beggar hoping to save enough money for a couple of aspirin to relieve your pain.

You should be worshipping at the shrine of LBJ's Great Society and thanking Big Government for it's taxpayer funded "entitlement" programs for your new pain free hip.

I'll go a step further and point out that it was SECULAR MEDICAL SCIENCE, not prayer and faith, that healed you.

You need to get a grip on reality.

Could it be Mr.Ducky-Wucky that they found evidence that there WAS reason for Zimmerman's shooting the "BOY"?

Could there "Possibly" be a self defense reason?

No Mr.Ducky-Wucky you or I were not there, so could it "Possibly" be that Mr. Obama once again "JUMPED TO CONCLUSIONS"
Sorry Mr.Ducky-Wucky and the rest of you blind racist bleeding hearts, but I think so and I also think that is why these hasn't been any arrest as yet. There is more to this story than meets the eye. Surely even a Blind Bleeding Heart Lib's like you can see that! Or should see that!

Joe said...

Craig: "Sounds like defending to me."

I'm not the least surprised at your inability to draw the correct conclusion from a given set of facts.

XO and Duck-Duck: Would that the government had instituted some form of privatized individual health IRA back then. I would be manufacturing pencils (or pens or printers) by the billions and would be rich by now, thus eliminating the need for Medicare as it is today.

Health care costs would be much lower now and you would have been paying lower taxes, thus keeping more of what you earn.

My bet is that neither of you can understand that.

Neither of you have ever been to the country formerly known as East Pakistan have you?

A) Beggars, Bangladeshi or otherwise, do not sell anything - they beg.

B) Selling pencils for pennies can make one rich. As long as you are not selling at a loss, you can make it up in volume(nyuck!). Low margin + high volume = avaricial wealth.

C) Aspirin is a banned substance in the "Country of Bengal".

On a side note, whereas the official beastie of the US of A is the Bald Eagle, the official beastie of Bangladesh is the Bengal Tiger.
