SLIPPERY STUFF
Electric cars are a joke...pure and simple.
In order to get us to buy them, President BO is perfectly willing to allow the price of crude to rise until we cannot tell the difference between the cost of operating our oil based vehicles and the cost of buying and operating the inefficient, unusable electric vehicles, such as the Volt and the Leaf.
During the last oil crisis, I wrote frequently about our need to start drilling in the US for oil.
The hue and cry then was, "We can't drill ourselves out of this crisis."
That was not true then and it is not true now, for several reasons.
The price of crude oil is not determined by how much it costs to get it out of the ground. It is based, in large part, on how much it is believed it will cost to get it out of the ground in the future.
The other objection was often, "It will take us ten years to realize the first drop of oil from any new drilling operations."
That, too, was a lie. If the oil companies had gotten the green light, they would already be producing new barrels of crude today. They can do that. Yes, they can.
Besides, if the ten year mark were true, we'd be that much closer to it today than we were then.
Here are the facts about oil availability in the US.
According to our own government, North Dakota and Montana have an estimated 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil in an area known as the Bakken Formation.
"It is clear that the Bakken formation contains a significant amount of oil - the question is how much of that oil is recoverable using today's technology?" said Senator Byron Dorgan, of North Dakota. "To get an answer to this important question, I requested that the U.S. Geological Survey complete this study, which will provide an up-to-date estimate on the amount of technically recoverable oil resources in the Bakken Shale formation."
The USGS estimate of 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil has a mean value of 3.65 billion barrels. Scientists conducted detailed studies in stratigraphy and structural geology and the modeling of petroleum geochemistry. They also combined their findings with historical exploration and production analyses to determine the undiscovered, technically recoverable oil estimates.
("Technically recoverable," in this context, does not mean that it could be recoverable, it means that we presently have the technology to recover it.)
USGS further states that in order for oil to be economically extracted from the Bakken fields, it must cost about $50.00 per barrel. With oil currently at well over $100.00 per barrel, are your math skills high enough to realize that we passed that $50.00 level long ago?
In the "sacred," though minute portion of Alaska called ANWR, according to US Geological Survey, ANWR contains up to 9.2 billion barrels of oil. The entire coastal plain has up to 29.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
Some estimates put the amount higher. According to them, "...economically recoverable oil ... including reserves growth in known fields, is 35 to 36 billion barrels."
Add to that current oil reserves in Texas where less than a third of the 190 billion barrels of oil available have been produced, and the rest of the states where oil is found as well as the oil available off-shore, and we have enough oil to be come totally independent of Middle Eastern oil for the next 100 years, which would give us time to develop alternative energy sources the right way, instead of the mistake-filled way it is being done now.
Given this information, what conclusions would you draw as to why President BO and his cohorts in the Congress and Senate resist going after the very oil that would make us independent of foreign oil, if that's what they really want us to do?
Consider, in addition to all of that, the fact that oil is being produced in South America, Russia and China, all of whom have significant technically available oil, and the world supply of oil becomes immense...something that should be lending itself to reducing the price of oil globally were it not being artificially kept high by such organizations as OPEC.
Remember, the electric car thing is not a solution anyway, because it only addresses the reduction of oil used in vehicles (and does not address trains, buses, trucks and other commercial uses of carbon based fuel), and ignores the hundreds of thousands of other things made from oil including the exterior and interior components of electric vehicles!.
This whole "green energy" thing is a total farce. Everywhere it has been tried it has failed, mostly because we are not technically ready for it.
It is time to contact your congressperson and urge him/her to get on the ball and let's get this oil need satisfied while we have the chance to do so.
It will buy us the time we need to properly seek and develop alternatives.

JUST RAISE THE DEBT CEILING AND PRINT SOME MORE!
Isn't that pretty much what I was saying a few posts back?
FROM OUR "NOW WE KNOW" DEPARTMENT:
Just askin' 'cause I don't know: In 1961 would the father's race have been listed as "African?"
If I say someone is "African," does that automatically mean they are black skinned?
In 1961, wouldn't that word have been "Negroid" or "Negro?"
Again...just askin'
And maybe you can explain this to me (please, please!):
Look...I don't know where President BO was born. I don't even care, 'cause it will make no difference at all.
I would just like somebody to be up front about it all.

JUST BECAUSE HE'S NOT WHO HE SAYS HE IS IS NO REASON TO MISTRUST HIM
Would it also be reasonable to assume that whatever group one gives preferential treatment is the one he/she leans toward most wholeheartedly?
In 2010, did President BO or did he not release an "Easter Greeting" that included Jews, Muslims, Hindus and others? Is not Easter a uniquely Christian observance?
During 2010, did President BO also release statements that recognized the observance of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha...uniquely Muslim observances?
During Passover this month, did President BO, or did he not, release a greeting that compared the ancient Jewish exodus from Egypt to the Arab political awakening this year?
Don't most Arabs actively seek the destruction of Israel?
During Easter weekend, did President BO, or did he not, issue a statement about "Earth Day," while saying virtually nothing about Good Friday or Easter?
When asked about the issue, did White House Press Secretary Jay Carney suggested Obama’s “high profile” visit to a church Sunday should suffice to prove his devotion to Christianity?
Did Carney really say, “I’m not sure if we put out a statement or not, but he obviously personally celebrated Easter with his family,” and did he add ”the president took his family out to church in a very high-profile way?”
From the answers to these questions, to which faith would you conclude President BO has more allegiance?

A MOST SIGNIFICAN POST - PLEASE CLICK TO IT AND READ IT!
In it he lists eleven apologies made by President BO for America's actions:
1. Apology to France and Europe ("America Has Shown Arrogance")
2. Apology to the Muslim World
3. Apology to the Summit of the Americas
4. Apology at the G-20 Summit of World Leaders
5. Apology for the War on Terror
6. Apology for Guantanamo in France
7. Apology before the Turkish Parliament
8. Apology for U.S. Policy toward the Americas
9. Apology for the Mistakes of the CIA
10. Apology for Guantanamo in Washington
11. And he apologized to the Japan for bombing Hiroshima 65 years ago!
He reminds us of and documents each of the apologies.
Do you agree with this assessment?
If not, on which points is he wrong?
Is President BO the great apologist?

A MOMENTARY DEPARTURE
WHAT DO I MEAN WHEN I SAY, "I'M A CHRISTIAN?"
Words have meaning.
If words don't have meaning, then all attempts at communication are bound to fail.
When I was in school, my Literature teacher encouraged us to find the author's meaning in his writings.
When I studied under some rather liberal professors, it was not the authors' meanings that I was encouraged to find, but what the writing seemed to mean to me.
That was a travesty.
Some have tried to come to this blog and dictate what it means to be a Christian, mostly in an attempt to make themselves look better, or somehow "good enough" for whatever it was that they wanted to look "good enough" for.
But the meaning of being a Christian is not open for conjecture or political correctness, or some imagined philosophical bent.
Being a Christian has a meaning ascribed to it by the one who invented it, the Creator God.
So, having just come out of Resurrection Sunday (which some call "Easter"), let me define for you what I mean when I say that I am a Christian.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I am not shouting that 'I am clean living. I'm whispering 'I was lost, but now I'm found and forgiven.'
I was lost to the Creator God and through the death, burial and resurrection of Messiah, Christ, named, Jesus, I am found to Him and belong to Him forever.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I'm not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I am proclaiming my trust in, and only in, the finished work of Christ at the cross of Calvary and His resurrection.
When I say, 'I am a Christian,' I am trusting by faith that I will spend eternity with God, not because of my worthiness, but because of Christ's.
Confucius is dead.
The Buddha is dead.
Muhammad is dead.
But my Christ is alive.
He stands ready to receive as His own anyone who will come to Him with open heart and mind.
He will enable you to know in the depth of your being that though you die, you will live forever when you receive His gracious offer of salvation.
ADDENDUM: At 10:00 AM today I received word that my good friend, Charlie Warber, was struck by a car and killed yesterday afternoon.
Charlie and I had lunch together almost every Thursday. We were very close.
I am sad to the depths of my being for having lost Charlie, but am joyful in the knowledge that he knows the Savior of whom I spoke above.
I will miss Charlie. I will miss our lunches together. I will miss our good times together.
For years I was in Christian radio, and Charlie loved my sign-off every day.
And so, for him, I repeat it now:
"HAVE A GREAT DAY. MAKE IT A CHRIST-FILLED DAY, AND IF I DON'T SEE YOU HERE, I'LL SEE YOU OVER THERE."
See you soon, Charlie.
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. (John 11:26)

SOME VERY TAXING QUESTIONS
So, let me ask you liberal/progressives a few questions.
Section 1:
1. Is it true, or is it not true that the Congressional Budget Office should have the necessary statistical information to determine who earns what and who pays what in taxes in the United States?
2. If it is not true, what agency would be better qualified to present that information?
3. Does the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) indicate that the top 1% of income earners in the United States paid 39% of federal income taxes?
4. Does the CBO report that the top 1% of income earners in the United States earned 18% of pretax income?
5. Is it true or not that the CBO says that the top 5% of income earners paid 61% of federal income taxes while earning 31% of pretax income?
6. While we are on the subject, does CBO report that the top 40% of income earners paid 99.4% of federal income taxes, while the bottom 40% of income earners paid no federal income taxes at all?
7. According to CBO, did the bottom 40 % of income earners received 3.8% from IRS?
8. Finally, does CBO indicate that the middle 20% of income earners paid only 4.4% of federal income taxes?
You can check these figures out at CBO's website.
9. If those figures are true (and who wouldn’t believe such an intergitous body as the Congressional Budget Office?), how is placing a greater tax burden on the rich going to help either the total budgetary income or the country as a whole, since the “rich” could only possibly pay .6% more of federal taxes than they are already paying?
Section 2
10. Assuming you are not self-employed or a business owner, how many of you liberal/progressives work for a person or corporation that is poorer than you are?
11. If we took all of the money that belonged to all of the top 40% of earners in the United States, by how much would we be able to reduce the budget deficit?
12. If we applied the same money to the national debt, by how much would we be able to reduce it?
The answers to questions 1 and 3-8 are all “yes.”
The answer to question 9 is “It won’t.”
Question 10’s answer is “0”
“Negligible” is the answer to questions 11 and 12.
So, why can’t liberal/progressives understand that government’s economic problem is not more income, but the dire need for less spending (which is not to be confused with a lesser increase in spending)?
There are only a few possibilities: 1) They don’t care about facts, just about feelings; 2) They have never been taught how to actually arrive at factual information through adequate research; 3) They have pre-conceived notions based on their inability to discern the truth or fiction of what MainStream Media feeds them; 4) They don’t really care, they just want to disrupt the functionality of the United States any way they can; 5) They actually believe everything their liberal/progressive professors taught them in college or 6) They have chosen Marxism as their economic orientation.
Why do you liberal/progressives so hate the economic principles lain by our nations’ founders that you are willing to destroy the country to overturn them?
With how much debt do you think it is appropriate to saddle our children and grandchildren?
Finally, what is wrong with everybody who earns over a “poverty level” income paying a reasonable, set, flat rate of income tax on that overage?

REFUTE ANYTHING THIS MAN SAYS...GO AHEAD...I'LL WAIT!
Don't come to this blog and tell me this guy is a nut case.
If you can refute the facts he presents, feel free to do so.
If Hillary didn't say what he says she said, show me.
If President BO didn't say what he said, show me.
If General Petraus didn't say what he said, show me.
As for David Wood (the guy in the video) agree with him, understand him or whatever, but if you can refute him ON HIS POINTS, please do.
I didn't think so.

BACK FROM THE HOSPITAL
I have three holes in my groin, two that go into veins and one that goes into the artery.
I have a hole in my neck, through which the doctor inserted a "camera" to look at the inside of my heart.
I also have a hole in my wrist...in the artery.
I have no idea what that last hole is for.
I was strapped to a table in the OR, so I wouldn't yield to the compulsion to "help" the doctor.
You cannot imagine the indignities endured in preparation for the ablation.
Dr. Estrada is a good electrophysiologist, and the next thing I knew, I was giving the recovery room folks as much trouble as I could.
Time will tell whether or not the procedure accomplished its goal.
I'm home, now, but exhausted.
I'll return to blogging later.

RAISE THE DEBT CEILING---WE CAN AFFORD IT! SURE WE CAN!
"That's so cool," I said. "Now I don't have to pay for things, I just put them on my credit card!
Little did I know that there would be a day of reconning.
The bill came due.
Then I had a couple of choices.
I could pay a minimum payment, I could pay more than a minimum payment but less than the total due (continuing to finance the rest) or I could pay the whole thing off at the end of every month.
I chose the minimum payment, because then I could continue spending, using my credit card so I could buy more stuff.
I had lots of stuff...but I wanted more.
All of a sudden there came a day when I had "maxed-out" my credit card.
No store would allow me to buy more stuff, because my card was maxed out!
What to do! What to do!
So I made the only decision that made sense to me.
I got another credit card! This time I got a Master Card!
Oh joy! Now I could buy more stuff!
Of course I now had two minimum payments to make, but that's still less than paying both cards off at the end of the month.
And look at all the suff I now could proudly brag about.
Before long, the limit of my second card was reached.
Once agiain I made the only fiscal decision I could make.
I got yet another credit card, this time a Discover Card (after all, I get money back with Discover Card).
So I went on my merry way, making minimum payments on what was now three credit cards.
Nobody had pointed out to me that making minimum payments would leave me in debt to the credit card companies for the next 60 years!
As a matter of fact, I ended up having to declare bankruptcy. I lost everything except my car and my house.
My credit is in shambles and I can't buy stuff with my cards any more.
I wish I had never accepted that first credit card, let alone the other two.
Lucky for me, the above scenario was only a dream.
I don't use credit cards...period.
If I can't pay for it, I don't buy it...except for my house.
(Yes, even my cars I saved up for and paid cash...can you imagine such an archaic concept?)
When the government discusses "raising the debt ceiling," they are doing exactly the same thing I did.
They are just getting another credit card.
Some of you actually think that is a good thing.
Short-sighted fools.
The same thing will happen to our government that happened to me in my dream.
One day, China will call in our debt, and then, as the add says, we will work for them.
Is that what you want?
Really?

LINDSEY GRAHAM AND THE KORAN (Quor'an-If You Will)
Her name is Ann Barnhardt.
She is bright, articulate, a little salty and not a little angry.
Warning to those with short attention spans: This is 24 minutes and 23 seconds of video. You may not be intelligent enough to stick it out. But do so anyway. You, of all people, need to see it.
I am not at all interested in your opinion of Ann Barnhardt unless you have watched both videos. You won't know what you are talking about.
I AM interested in whether or not the passages she read in the second video are accurate.
What I want to know is whether or not you can authoritatively refute anything she reads from Quor'an.
If so, please do so in the comments section.
If you've never read Quor'an (I have, BTW), do so. And please tell me your impressions of it.
Does it or does it not allow: the beating of women; the beheading of infidels; the engaging in sex with boys; forcing oneself on women; engaging a prostitute and the other acts Ann Barnhardt claims.
If you are Muslim, please feel free to set the record straight about this book that inspired the beheading of at least two people after an obscure American pastor burned it.
Reveal to me the passages that would override or supersede the ones she read and why they would do so.
Please don't misrepresent it...remember (see above) I HAVE read it myself.

DEMS GOT "THEIR WAY" - REPUBLICANS CAVE
I am sitting here experiencing one of my frequent reactions to a drug called Niaspan. It feels as though someone has sprinkled cyan pepper all over my body, from my toes to the top of my bald head.
I have just learned that the government will not shut down.
Too bad.
I have read a couple of synopses of the "agreement," and all I can say is Republicans caved.
Of what use is a majority if a minority can still decide what you can and cannot do?
It certainly didn't happen when the Democrats had control of the house.
They effectively precluded Republicans from taking part in almost all discussions, they passed a very unpopular health care bill, they did pretty much as they pleased.
So when Republicans give them a shellacking in the mid-term elections, the shoe is on the other foot...or so one might think.
Not so.
See, Democrats in DC are ruthless, mean, hard line, unyielding (insert your favorite term of derision here), while Republicans are "gentlemanly," "civilized," calm and foolish.
In short, Republicans are what they have been for the last 10 years: Lilly-Livered, Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers.
Some may say the Republicans bowed to public pressure.
Well, that just goes to further prove my point.
President BO did not bow to public pressure over the health care bill...neither did Democrats.
Neither gives a flying hoot about what the public wants.
So lots of folks who thought they would get a paid (if only retroactively) day or two off, won't.
Parks and Recreation workers will have to open their parks and help people recreate.
Education department workers will have to report to work Monday and see how much more they can mess up education in the US.
And our troops will get their paychecks on time. (This is a good thing, but it probably would have happened anyway, had the government shut down, in spite of what MSM would have you believe.)
And so it goes.
Democrats got their way and the Neanderthalic Republicans got their cave.

SO, THEN, YOU GIVE IN...NO, YOU GIVE IN...NO, YOU...ARGH!
Harry Reid says we shouldnt be quibbling over such a minor thing as Planned Parenhood's part of the federal budget.
He says Rebuplicans should be ready to compromise.
(If it's such a minor thing, Mr. Reid, why don't you just give it up?)
One MainStream Media person quipped, "If Republicans think they can run a government without compromise, they have another think coming."
Another said, "All of this over birth control pills." (If PP were the issue, it wouldn't be over birth control pills, it would be over federal funding for the #1 abortion provider in the nation.)
I agree, Mr. MSM person.
So why don't Harry Reid and his cohorts just compromise and drop Planned Parenthood from the budget?
I'll tell you why.
It's because Democrats' idea of compromise (and I include President BO, the House and the Senate as well as all liberal/progressives) is: DO IT OUR WAY OR HIT THE ROAD, JACK.
Aw....who cares?
Just shut the thing down!!
PRESIDENTIAL PERK: IGNORE ACTUAL FACTS...JUST DO WHAT YOU WANT
So now we know.
In spite of the fact that his administration's own selected investigator proves that the DC Oppertunity Scholarship Program (school choice) is effective, President BO declares that it is not.
He is so very much smarter than everybody else, don't you think?

SO WHAT?
That means that "non-essential" services provided by the government will cease to operate.
Did you get that part about "non-essential?"
If they are non essential, why in the world do they exist?
Indeed, why do we even need a Department of Energy (they certainly don't provide us with any energy), a Department of Labor (they provide exactly "0" productive jobs), a Department of Education (they only make rules that make it harder to teach our children), or any other of those "non-essential" agencies?
Answer: we don't.
Do you know what the "shut-down" means?
It does NOT mean the government will shut down.
But wait...it's called a "shut-down!" Why would they call it a "shut-down" if the governemnt will not be shut down?
Because, dear citizen, that's how the government works: make the citizens fear so they'll do what we want them to do.
What WILL happen is that the workers in those agencies will be furloughed. They will go home, play with the kids, go to the beach, take a trip to Disney World and when the governmnet "starts back up again," they will return to work and get paid RETROACTIVELY for the exta vacation they just enjoyed.
Social Security will NOT be affected by the "shut down." You senior citizens will still get your checks...on time.
Medicare will NOT be affected by the "shut-down." You who are on Medicare will still get your doctor, hospital, surgeries and everything else paid for.
That is why I urge you to contact your congressperson and tell him/her "Go ahead! Shut the government down!"
It's no big deal.
The only ones who are making it a big deal are the Senate, House of Representatives, President BO and the MainStream Media.
Here's a video you can watch that deals with the "shut-down."

WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
“But you should know that keeping the economy growing and making sure jobs are available is the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning. It’s the last thing I think about when I go to bed each night.”
I'm confused.
That might be President BO's main tactic: Keep 'em confused and they'll think I'm doing a good job.
Maybe this boy genius can think in 3-D, in Dolby 5.1 surround sound and of two things at once.
The first of his statements came at a 9/11 remembrance, the second last Friday.
Oh! Now I have it fugured out! Say whatever the occasion calls for, true or not.
But remember, if I can't count on your words being true one time, which time CAN I count on them being true? Please make me a list of things I can trust you on and things that I can't.
So I ask, what does he really think of when he first wakes up and when at last he lies down to sleep?
I know the answer to that question: the same thing any amateur who is also a narcissist thinks about...himself.

THE BURNING ISSUE
Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who oversaw the burning of a Koran last month, said he did not feel responsible for the violent protest at a United Nations compound in Afghanistan today that left at least 11 dead. Instead, he said the violence proved his point.
Rev. Jones is a pastor in a small, insignificant little independent church in Florida.
His actions would not have been noticed in another time.
But in this age of anti-Americanism on the part of our MainStream Media, his earlier threats to burn a Koran, and his subsequent actually doing so, made major league headlines...for no real reason.
Was he right in burning Koran?
Not in my opinion.
Did he have a right to burn a Koran?
He did in my opinion.
The real issue is about the disproportionate reaction of the Afghans.
What should have happened was for a high ranking representative of the Afghans to take to the airways and "condemn" the pastor's behavior.
Instead, we had riots in the street, killings and at least two beheadings.
How could this irrational response happen in a country so advanced, so civilized, so peace-oriented and so politically sophisticated as Afghanistan?
The answer is that Afghanistan is not rational, is not advanced, is not civilized, is not peaceful and is not politically sophisticated.
The common Afghan is a barbarian who believes, if anything is done or said that he doesn't like, he is justified in rioting and killing over it.
If you are a woman, he feels especially justified to publically humiliate you, sexually abuse you and stone you.
Liberal progressives will tell us it is a cultural thing and we should be more understanding.
I say it is a murdurous thing and is beyond understanding.
Women of America must be so looking forward to the day when some form of Afghan law takes a firm grip on this country.
The Afghans of Mazar-i-Sharif behaved in just the way as could be expected.
Truth is, the wayward pastor did not cause the bloodshed in Afghanistan, Afghans chose to do what they did. They are the ones responsible.
How could anyone condone their response.
But you can bet there will be plenty of Americans who will.

IT'S BEEN ALL OVER THE BLOGOSPHERE
I first saw this on another blog, but I don't remember which one.
I know you've been yearning for it, so here's my take on this mess.
First, as a conservative, I take the stand that the law is the law.
If it's a bad law, work to change it.
My beef is not with the fact that a goal post was taken down by the "powerful law enforcement agency."
My beef is with the procedure and the attitude of the "powerful law enforcement agency."
In all probability (although this might not be the case) the mean spirited blond was just doing her job.
In my humble, but correct, opinion, the citizen should have been issued a citation long before this incident took place, should have responded to the ticket, either paying it or challenging it in a court of law, and should have moved the goal post out of the right-of-way (known as an easement).
Whether he had the chance to move the post or not is not known through this video.
Either way, though, it is clear that he was told by the police officer that he would have the option of keeping his goal post...which was a half-truth and therefore a lie.
He was not offered the option of keeping the goal post, but of getting it back, albeit in a broken condition, due to the ineptitude of the heavy equipment operator. That's not the same thing.
Justify the law if you want to. I don't have enough information to either do that or not.
What cannot be justified is the overall attitude of the blond, who tried to stifle the husband's and wife's speech on their own property.
They were not being a threat to anyone, just trying to keep their goal post. He pleaded with her to have the time to plead his case, but was refused it in no uncertain terms.
The overall lesson from this is: you get the laws you deserve when you elect the lawmakers you elect.
Americans should be a lot more careful about whom they elect...locally and nationally.
Take President BO, for instance...please!

AT LEAST TEMPORARILY BACK! TRY TO CONTROL YOUR ENTHUSIASM!
Here is the text from which Bill Whittle adapted that video (from iowahawk)
Feed Your Family on $10 Billion a Day
Seems like these days I hear a lot of whiney whiners whining about "out of control government spending" and "insane deficits" and such, trying to make hay out of a bunch of pointy-head boring finance hooey. Sure, $3.7 trillion of spending sounds like a big number. "Oh, boo-hoo, how are we going to get $3.7 trillion dollars? We're broke, boo-hoo-hoo," whine the whiners. What these skinflint crybabies fail to realize is that $3.7 trillion is for an entire year - which translates into only a measly $10 billion per day!
Mister, I call that a bargain. Especially since it pays for all of us - you and me, the whole American family. Like all families, we Americas have to pay for things - health, food, safety, uncle Dave America with his drinking problem. And when little Billy America wants that new quad runner they promised, do Mom and Dad America deny him? No, they get a second job at Circle K, because they know little Billy might have one of his episodes and burn down the house. So let's all sit down together as an American family with a calendar and make a yearly budget.
First, let's lock in the $3.7 trillion of critical family spending priorities; now let's get to work on collecting the pay-as-we-go $10 billion daily cash flow we need.
12:01 AM, January 1 Let's start the year out right by going after some evil corporations and their obscene profits. And who is more evil than those twin spawns of Lucifer himself, Exxon Mobil and Walmart? Together these two largest American industrial behemoths raked in, between them, $34 billion in 2010 global profits. Let's teach 'em both a lesson and confiscate it for the public good. This will get us through...
9:52 AM January 4 Okay, maybe I underestimated our take. But we shouldn't let Exxon and Walmart distract us from all those other corporate profiteers out there worth shaking down. In fact, why don't we grab every cent of 2010 profit made by the other 498 members of the Fortune 500? That will net us another, let's see, $357 billion! Enough to get us to...
2:00 AM February 9 So we're running out of corporate cash, but look - it's Super Bowl time! As we all know, the game has become a crass disgusting festival of commercialism. So let's take all the TV ad money spent on stupid Super Bowl ads, and apply that to government needs. That would be $250 million, enough to fund us for, let's see... 36 minutes. The half time show, at least. But why stop there? Let's take every cent of ad money spent on all 45 Super Bowls, a cool $5 billion, which would cover us until...
2:00 PM February 9 Speaking of sports, why should the players be immune to our pressing public needs? Lord knows professional athletes make obscene salaries for playing a dumb game. So let's take the combined salaries of all players in the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA, and the NHL. Hey, they've got endorsement deals, they'll hardly miss it. Throw in the total winnings of everybody on the PGA tour and NASCAR, and we get $9.4 billion, enough to get us through until...
1:00 PM February 10 Okay, it's time to stop messing around. Athletes aren't the only ones greedily raking it in. What about America's rich - those fancy pants fat cats living the high life in the above-$250,000 income bracket? According to IRS statistics, these 1.93% of US households are hogging 25% of US income. And why do they need it? For crying out loud, they probably stole it anyway. I say let's take 100% of every penny they make above $250,000. They can use the rest to pay their state and local taxes. Now we're talking big bucks, brother. How much? Let's see...
A: Number of US households: 116,000,000
B: Average US household income: $68,000 (median = $52,000)
C: Total US household income (A * B): $7.89 trillion
D: Percent of households above $250k income: 1.93%
E: Number of households above $250k income (A*D): 2,238,800
F: Percent of national income earned by households making $250k or more = 25%
G: Total income of households making $250k or more (C*F): $1.97 trillion
H: Total income of households in excess of $250k (G - E*$250,000) = $1.412 trillion
Alright! Take that, fat cats! Our $1.412 trillion windfall has us covered for the next 141 days, or until...
6:00 PM July 2 Well, I guess maybe there are a few items we can cut from the budget. Those quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example. Why don't we end all funding for those wars, and bring our troops home to march in the Fourth of July parade? That would save us $105 billion Afghanistan and $159 billion in Iraq, a total of $264 billion - enough savings to cover us until...
4:00 AM July 29 Summer blockbuster season! And of course the biggest blockbuster of all time was Star Wars. To punish George Lucas for those stupid sequels, let's confiscate every penny of revenue generated by the Star Wars franchise since 1977 - movies, TV rights, books, toys, action figures, everything - which nets us $25 billion. Enough to keep the lights on until...
4:00 PM August 1 Well, there's plenty more money in Hollywood to go after. So, for the national good, let's evict everyone in Beverly Hills and sell their homes at current market value. 15,000 homes at $2 million per gets us another $30 billion, paying the bills through...
4:00 PM August 4 The kids will be going back to school soon, so we're gonna have to bring out the big guns and really go after those moneybag plutocrats like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Between 'em, those two bastards have amassed a combined fortune of $100 billion. What kind of jerk needs that kind of money? The worst thing is they're shielding it from the public treasury using the oldest trick in the billionaire playbook - by continuing to live. Once they kick the bucket, and after we close the estate tax loopholes, the American public will get the 50% of their ill-gotten loot we so richly deserve. So let's say we arrange a couple of unfortunate "accidents" for Mssrs. Gates and Buffett. Now we've got another $50 billion for the US coffers, enough to get us to...
4:00 PM August 9 Aw, screw it. There are plenty more American billionaires to go after - 398 more to be precise, according to the latest Forbes 400, with a combined total net worth of $1.29 trillion. 398 more "accidents," 398 more estates taxed at 50%, and we've got another $650 billion to tide us through...
4:00 PM October 13 Crap. Okay, let's just kill all the billionaires and take all their money. Add in another 100 or so of the almost-billionaires, and that buys us an additional 73 days until...
4:00 PM December 25 Merry Christmas! Just one more week to go. In the spirit of the season, let's give the surviving conservative wingnuts a few of the budget cuts they've been bitching for, like getting rid of foreign aid. This saves $50 billion - getting us to...
4:00 PM December 30 Only 32 hours to go! To cover the remaining $12.5 billion vital federal program tab, let's pass the cash bucket and demand every surviving American man, woman and child to kick in another another $40 bucks. I'm pretty sure they will, after all those previous "accidents."
12:00 AM January 1 Happy New Year!
See? Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Time to do it all again, except this time we'll need to come up with $11 billion per day. I'm sure we'll figure it out somehow.
Do you know where we can get some more plutocrats?
So, how many of you liberal/progressives still hate rich people?
How many of you get a paycheck from one?
