DO YOU GET TO BE ONE BY JUST SAYING SO?

President BO claims to be a Christian. He has written about it often.

He doesn’t seem too clear on exactly what it means to actually be a Christian.

Wrote he: “…I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead — being my brothers’ and sisters’ keeper, treating others as they would treat me.”

What ever happened to understanding that the Biblical teaching: “…all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) includes him?

What became of President BO’s realization that the Biblical teaching in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death” applies to all of us, including him?

And what, pray tell, does he do with Romans 10:9 which tells us: “…if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”?

Finally, what does he do with the many, many Biblical passages that define a Christian as one who has repented of personal sin, trusted in, and only in, the finished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary, died to self and committed his life to serving Him?

Oh, and did I mention that “…being my brothers’ and sisters’ keeper…” is not a teaching of Christ, but was Cain’s answer to God when asked where his brother, Abel, (having been murdered by Cain) was? It was Cain who answered, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with being our brothers’ keepers, or that we should not treat others as we would like to be treated, I’m just saying that these things, while good, are NOT what makes one a Christian.

It causes me to wonder whether President BO actually knows what it means to be a Christian.

I believe the man will do or say whatever it takes to get where he wants to go. So if he says he is a Christian ... ? It's probably not true.

The true test is that if Obama were truly a Christian, the bigoted left would be going ballistic. The fact that the Christian-haters aren't making a peep means they KNOW he is attempting to manipulate people. And that fact that he is trying to manipulate people means that like, all liberals, he thinks Christians are stupid hicks.

Joe, Great post as usual...."God will not be mocked" He did say," Vengence is mine." Therefore, we should not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself......Of course that doesn't mean we should sit on our hands....God also gave us the ablility to think rationally, but to judge...That is his alone.....stay well...

Janie Lynn: But he thinks things are true because, and only because, he says them, whether they actually are or not.

LR: Good point. They wouldn't stand for it. But they defend his pseudo-Christianity to the hilt.

tapline: Worry...no. Take whatever action we can...by all means.

Nah, don't believe a word the guy says. Democrats for the most part are atheists, and consider the state as their savior and guiding light.

Remember when Bill Clinton would get caught in his latest bimbo eruption, and out came the Bible, surgically connected to his arm for the next week or two.

Then he would put it away after the bimbo was smeared and trashed by the media, and things would die down. Of course, another bimbo would emerge, and out came that Bible again. A big, honkin' Bible, perhaps a 20 pounder at that.

Don't believe a word any liberal says. Not even that they are Christian. They only use Christianity as a prop, nothing more.

Fredd: What? Dems would stoop so low as to use the Bible and Christianity as a prop? Guess what? You're absolutely right.

Joe-

My first reaction to Obama's statement of "his Christianity" is that his 16-year-old speechwriter doesn't know the first thing about it.

Joe said...

QR: Speech writer? President BO has a speech writer? Then why do all of his speeches sound so haltingly amateurish?

Does that mean when he says he's not a Muslim he really is?
Actually I don't recall him saying he wasn't it's the 20% of the country who supports him who are saying it. And they say it with such certainty it must not be true.

Lisa: That's a very interesting take on it all.

Gad, Lone Ranger's comment stopped me in my tracks; the left would be going ballistic...like they did with Bush for his faith.
But then I think of Clinton and he said he was a Christian...and he even went to church on a regular basis (even if MOnica WAS waiting for him afterwards in the Oval office)but was not insulted by the left.

I guess it's just okay for Dems to be CHristians, not Republicans!?

Yes the left would be going ballistic, if in fact there was a monolithic one way understanding of how Christianity is to be understood and lived.

I know that is how many on the right would like to portray Christianity, but history, theology, experience, and the bible say otherwise.

BTW Joe, you left out this part of Obamas statement...

"And I think also understanding that Jesus Christ dying for my sins spoke to the humility we all have to have as human beings, that we're sinful and we're flawed and we make mistakes, and that we achieve salvation through the grace of God,"

If he believes that, and I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt, as I try to do with most, that sounds pretty mainline Christian to me.

Joe -

Heh, heh, heh.

I said he has a speechwriter, not that he had a good speechwriter, or a knowledgeable speechwriter. ;)

I agree. John Favreau, Obama's head speechwriter, writes speeches that sound like he has only very narrow life experience and has never opened a history book (never mind a Bible).

Just like his boss.

That's pretty low, even for you, Joe. On whose authority do you question any man or woman's faith?

If you say you have that right because you just do. Then here and now I question you as a Christian. By virture of what you've written here, I seriously doubt you are a Christian.

No devout Christian I have met in my years every spoke of another person's personal faith as you have--with cynicism and sneering cattiness.

The truth is Joe, you know absolutely nothing about what is in Mr. Obama's heart and what his relationship with God is.

That you continuously mock this man's faith is pretty good evidence to me that yours is the fake faith, and not Mr. Obama's.

It seems it isn't enough that you savage him on his politics and his family, but you also have to stoop to making unkind and dishonorable statements about his personal relationship to God.

Shaming you for this unrightious and base behavior doesn't work. Apparently you find it a badge of honor to strut your stuff and publicly demean other Christians.

SK: You are absolutely right...I cannot see his heart, only God can, which means you can't either.

All we have to go on are his actions and his statements.

Matthew 7: 18. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

I just look at his fruit.

His fruit is spoiled and rotted.
