THE LAW

Congress sees itself as a very important part of the American way of life.

One thing you can count on them to do is to say, "Americans want..." when they neither know nor care what Americans want.

They only care about what they want, which is, and always has been, more power with which to control the actions of the American people.

There was a time when congressmen moved among their constituents to get a feel for what they wanted, but that time is long gone. Today they hold "town hall meetings" at which they get angry and/or aggressive when they are told what the people actually want.

In their minds, there should be a law for everything. They have set out to accomodate that perceived need.

Ancient Israel did the same thing.

God gave one law: Don't eat the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden. (Whether you believe that literally or not, follow the logic to see where I am going before you react with, "I don't believe the Bible...," because that will miss the point...and frankly, I am not interested in liberals' opinions of the Bible).

Adam and Eve (mankind, if you will) could not obey that one single law.

Then God gave the Ten Commandments.

Mankind could not obey them.

Israel came up with over 600 laws.

We sure can't abide by them.

Congress is doing the same thing.

We started with a Constitution and a Bill of Rights.

Not enough.

We "needed" more laws, so Congress came up with them.

We still don't have enough. Not to worry...more are on the way.

For instance, don't try to sell your house until after you pay out good money to upgrade all of your appliances to meet federal standards (find THAT one in the Constitution, I double-dog-dare you).

I submit that we'd all be better off if Congress would repeal all of the laws but two:

1) Do all you have agreed to do.

2) Do not encroach on other persons or their property.

Let's all hold our collective breaths.

Your right. There are way too many laws.

If we added the Golden Rule in addition to your two laws then I think those would be all that we would need.

If we hold our "collective breaths" we will surely die. It is really sad what has happened to our government.

Joe, If one would look at current events and the aftermath of an incident that took on national interest. a few people complained about what was happening all over America and Congress passes a law to make what ever happened illegal there it's fixed and so it still goes as you noted in your post, Joe.....We the government allows it to happen and never lift a finger to have any expunged, Constitutional or not....They continue to add up. One thinks our freedoms are being taken away..Take a close look at our religous freedoms...You will find, I'm quite sure, The black robes have much to do with that happening and will continue to whittle away unles we as a people insist that it stop!

And, anytime Democrats want to pass some law that further takes away our rights, they say it's "for the children".

Ever notice that?

Leticia, I was about to post the same thing verbatim! LOL!

What I notice is that they pass law after law and simply expempt themselves from said laws.

We need an ammendment to the Constitution that states that Congress may not expempt themselves for any laws they pass.

Your wish is here

The 28th Amendment

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.”

Great post, Joe.

I don't recall the exact quotes, but our founders actually expected citizens to know and understand all laws, which were to be kept to a minimum. Thank you for reminding us of a few first principles.

Teresa: The Golden Rule would be a great addition.

Leticia: Our deaths would not disappoint them too much.

Tapline:The Black Robes, indeed, share a good part of the blame, and it's about to get worse.

Mark: Everything is for the children...even poverty.

Krystal: What? And make them share common bonds with us commoners?

ablur: Outstanding! Can you now get it passed?

Silverfiddle: Thank you. Not only does this present crowd not want us to know what our laws actually are (witness deciding them behind closed doors), they would be opposed to keeping them few in number, lest they become too easy to keep up with.

Krystal, great minds think alike!
