WHENEVER THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GETS INVOLVED

That's cute. But the Common Core was developed by the states, not the fed.

XO: The fed, even now, is trying to dictate the terms and conditions of Common core.

It is true that the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), led the development of the Common Core State Standards.

But trust me, As soon as all states have developed their applications of Common Core, the feds will snatch it from them and will "unify" it and it will become a full-fledged federal program, complete with the bureaucracy to back it up within the Department of Education. It will become a requirement of the federal government.

The federal government has already initiated a "stimulus" package for states that adopt Common Core. That package makes money available to states that adopt Common Core. Imagine that...federal bribery. To what end?

The Director of the Department of Education, Arne Duncan, has already announced that $350,000,000 of that package will be used to create the kinds of tests that "unify" Common Core. What do you imagine "unify" to mean as it related to federal involvement?

Surely it could not possibly mean that the door has been opened to let the fed in to have an increasing level of control over the States' implementation of Common Core...do you think?

Joe - Even if your paranoid fantasy is true, how is your alternative a better idea?

Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi or Kansas - We know there is a Common Core that all of the other states agreed to that has now become a Federal Standard. But we want our students to be stupider than everyone else. We want our our children to be ignorant, backwoods, religious idiots who are unable to discern facts from dogma.

You would be totally OK with that, wouldn't you?

Among the developed nations, we have done a good job of getting them there. That happened when we abandoned proper learning techniques and substituted progressive methods.

Example:

“Write a number sentence with a blank for the missing number. Explain how the number sentence shows the problem.”

"Carry out the addition 26 + 39 = 65, put 65 = 26 + □, and then find that □ = 39."

Give me an ever lovin' blue eyed break!

I'm surprised that Teabags are so upset about Common Core.

Its focus is heavy standardized testing which is a big Teabag wish list item.

Nothing that has come out of the administration has acted to delay education privatization. What's up with the criticism, Joe?

Joe - Where on earth are you pulling that math problem from?
