THANKS TO GeeeeeZ

GeeeeeZ is here.

What I would like to have is your reasoned response to his comments on "gun control."

So, according to this idiot, GOD HIMSELF granted Americans the Right to own guns.

I've read the Bible many times, cover to cover. I've studied it intensively.

I missed the part where God Almighty granted Americans the right to arm themselves with the latest and greatest black market, gun show weaponry.

Pretty sure it wasn't Leviticus. Leviticus was all about banning stuff like delicious seafood and comfortable blended fibers.

Romans? Ephesians? Thessalonians?

Where, exactly, does God grant us the right to bear arms?

Because if your answer is the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States then God don't enter into it because that was a document written by men and for men.

There was no Divine Intervention. God Himself did not scribe that document in stone tablets. Angry, human, white, slave-holding men fought and argued over every word of the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Every single letter was written by human hands controlled by human minds.

And when the 2nd Amendment was written an "arm" was a musket. Not an AR-15, an AK-47 or an RPG.

It is hilarious to me that people who argue that the Constitution is a strict, unchanging document that "means what it means" and cannot be updated or changed to meet the reality of modern society, also insist that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." written in 1791 can be extended to mean any redneck chucklehead can own a cellar full of automatic weapons and a stash of C4.

The Stupid...It BURNS!!!

Most of what is being proposed is "people control". Background checks, going after straw buyers and gun traffickers and beefing up existing laws. Banning the sale and importation of certain 'assault' weapons and limiting magazine size probably won't pass but if it did, how would that restrict this regular, jeans wearin' guy from exercising his "God given" right to protect himself and his family?

I love how the argument is either subtly, like this guy, or blatantly couched in, "they're coming to take your guns, freedom". Nonsense. I'll bet that little group had to get a permit to exercise their "God given" right to peaceably assemble. Being a Secret Service agent, he would come down pretty hard on anyone using their "God given" right of free speech to utter anything that could be construed as a threat to the president.

All of our Rights are regulated to some degree. There are over 300M guns privately owned in this country. No one is advocating and no one thinks it's possible to round them all up. With all those guns, shouldn't the U.S. be one of the safest countries in the world? Counting suicide, murder and accident there are about 30,000 gun deaths a year. About 75,000 gun injuries. I guess the solution is more guns.

I'm sure he didn't mean this the way it came out, but maybe not.

It pains me to say this, I'm not a right wing nut, I'm not a xenophobe, I'm not a misogynist.

Can you feel his pain, Joe?

XO: Thanks for trying to guide my thinking. Now I'll try to guide yours.

The framers, as well as recent leaders, recognized what they referred to as Natural Law. Natural Law is a description of the way things are in nature.

To those who believe in God, Natural Law exists through Him. If you don't believe in God, that's OK. It's your business, but you cannot deny that there is a Natural Law that defines civilization.

Part of that Natural Law is the right to defend oneself from intruders: robbers; thieves and the government.

I have never met a person who believes the Constitution is a strict, unchanging document. The Constitution (since you seem not to know) is changeable through the amendment process.

Go ahead. Change it all you want to through the right process, if you can get it done.

Craig: "Most of what is being proposed is 'people control'."

Most is not all. It's the other part of "all," not the "most" that is problematic.

You a Hobbesian, Joe?

Ducky: Well, he had some ideas with which I agree. "...all legitimate political power must be 'representative' and based on the consent of the people; and a liberal interpretation of law which leaves people free to do whatever the law does not explicitly forbid."

I would change the word "must" to "should," because "must" would imply that they have no choice. They obviously have a choice, since there are so many that do not allow representation from the people.

I would probably choose some word other than "liberal," given today's political nomenclature.

I would not agree with his stance on the absolutism for the sovereign.

Jo Joe - Yeah, about that Natural Law. I'm glad you brought that up.

"There is documented evidence of homosexual or transgender behavior of one or more of the following kinds: sex, courtship, affection, pair bonding, or parenting, as noted in researcher and author Bruce Bagemihl's 1999 book Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity.

Bagemihl's research shows that homosexual behavior, not necessarily sex, has been observed in close to 1500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them."

Same sex unions are firmly rooted in Natural Law. So I assume we can count on your support when a bill allowing Gay Marriage comes up for a vote in Florida. Thank you in advance for your vote in favor of Natural Law.

XO: If the parts don't fit, you musta quit.

Jo Joe - LOL! That was a very cute way of avoiding the question.

What you define as "Natural Law, a.k.a. "God's Law", embraces homosexuality as a viable survival strategy throughout the animal kingdom.

So what is your position? Do you defy your God and deny his Natural Law?
