HEAR HIM ROAR!
In an attempt to draw a clear contrast between himself and Mitt Romney, President Obama on Thursday touted his supposed “rescue“ of the auto industry and claimed that he intends to do the same for ”every industry”:
“I said, I believe in American workers, I believe in this this American industry, and now the American auto industry has come roaring back,” the president said during a campaign speech in Pueblo, Colo. “Now I want to do the same thing with manufacturing jobs, not just in the auto industry, but in every industry.”
Roaring Back?
GM just had its worst quarter in years with sales down 38%. And they still owe billions of dollars to the taxpayer (read:government).
So, let's do that to every business.
What a good idea!
Those leftist dunce-heads have such thick rose colored glasses on that they can't see the immeasurable damage done to their favorite industry, Government Motors.
He says Governor Romney wanted to let GM go bankrupt!
Good on him!
If they had gone bankrupt, they would have been able to restructure themselves in such a way that by now they would have been out of debt (to the American taxpayer, remember?) and would have been able to function like a business is designed to function: at a profit.
And then there's the phrase, "...do the same thing with manufacturing jobs, not just in the auto industry, but in every industry.”
Every industry? Really? Every one?
Under what system does the government support and control every industry?
Answer: Under socialism.
But the left says he is not a Socialist.
And we're supposed to believe that.
Liberals do.
Dummies.

Good Lord Joe this man definitely needs to go in November. The dumbed down public can't even see the obvious. Pretty sad for our country.
What's he going to do when he runs out of money, pull an Argentina.
Joe - Here is the actual report. You might want to pay particular attention to that last paragraph.
GM Reports Second Quarter Net Income of $1.5 Billion and EBIT-adjusted of $2.1 Billion
Thu, Aug 2 2012
DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today announced second quarter net income attributable to common stockholders of $1.5 billion, or $0.90 per fully diluted share.
In the second quarter a year ago, GM’s net income attributable to common stockholders was $2.5 billion, or $1.54 per fully diluted share.
Net revenue in the second quarter of 2012 was $37.6 billion, compared with $39.4 billion in the second quarter of 2011.
The decrease was due almost entirely to the strengthening of the U.S. dollar versus other major currencies.
Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) adjusted was $2.1 billion, compared with $3.0 billion in the second quarter of 2011.
Total restructuring expense included in EBIT-adjusted for the second quarter of 2012 was $0.1 billion.
“Our results in North America, our International Operations and at GM Financial were solid but we clearly have more work to do to offset the headwinds we face, especially in regions like Europe and South America,” said GM chairman and CEO Dan Akerson.
“Despite the challenging environment, GM has now achieved 10consecutive quarters of profitability, which is a milestone the company has not achieved in more than a decade.”
Obama is a Fabian socialist. He believes in using the power of the government to gradually transition the country into socialism. This article explains it well.
XO: Well let's just accept your analysis for conversation purposes.
That still misses the point which still stands.
The turning point question in the post was: "Under what system does the government support and control every industry?"
Let's say that President BO (the child president) is a Fabian Socialist and not a Che Guevara forced takeover type.
The result is the same. The government runs and controls everything.
So much for liberty.
LR: I read the article and it makes things very clear.
He reaches the same conclusions I have.
If Obama is r-eelected, and I fear he will be, we can certainly expect the "bully" part of the "bully pulpit."
Paul Ryan comes out swinging: 'If you have a small business, you did build that'!
Mitt Romney is a leader with the skills, the background and the character that our country needs at a crucial time in its history. Following four years of failed leadership, the hopes of our country, which have inspired the world, are growing dim; and they need someone to revive them. Governor Romney is the man for this moment; and he and I share one commitment: we will restore the dreams and greatness of this country.
We've got Ryan and they have Biden! LMAO.
We got all we need to get and take back America. .
SDHV: Romney made the right choice. Ryan will make it a strong ticket.
ifbaded: Ryan will chew Biden into little pieces in the VP debate(s).
But we must remain diligent. This is not going to be easy.
The Liar's administration will pull out all the stops and magnify the tiniest thing they can find on Ryan into something "major."
If he spit chewing gum on the grass in some park, that will become a federal offense and he'll be called out on it.
Obama and his "team of thugs" are merciless and will fight to the finish for their power.
XO big deal they still owe 41 billion dollars to the taxpayer. It's nothing but a big ponzi scheme by the government.
Give any company billions and they will do well but at what cost?
Why not take billions more from the taxpayers and give it to every business? The heck with the next generations.
and he didn't do it to save the auto industry,he did it to pay back the Unions. So now the taxpayers who are trying to make ends meet paid for someone else's pensions.
Just get ready for an October surprise from the left!
As October surprises seem to be famous and a pattern in Democratic presidential elections..
Will it be Hillary Clinton running for President instead of Obama? Or more likely Chairman Obama Bombing Iran, to secure the Jewish vote! I wouldn’t doubt either one a bit!
Be prepared and be warned for anything.
Number one on their list will be destroying Paul Ryan. As the Progressive JERKS on the blogsphere have already started to do.
Joe, this is exactly the juxtaposition Ryan will emphasize...
BIG GOVERNMENT ISN'T WORKING AND IS OUT OF EVEN YOUR CHILDREN'S MONEY.
Let Obama keep this up....
WHere's Biden, by the way? ANybody heard anything out of him in the last few weeks? interesting, isn't it.
I don't think Obama'd ever give up the presidency to Hillary (imagine the Black community if that happened, by the way?) but something's caused that hatred between Obama and Clinton to somehow seem to have disappeared....Hillary as VP because "Biden needs to step down for personal reasons?"
Maybe.
Bring it on...a Hillary/Ryan debate? OH, PLEASE, GOD! :-)
Lisa: "Why not take billions more from the taxpayers and give it to every business?"
That's exactly what PBO(tcp)said he wanted to do.
Then he will control them all, and that's socialism, whether liberals will admit it or not.
Z: If Biden steps down, he'd better watch where he steps, it could get messy.
Ryan and Hillary in a debate? Precious!
Thank you Mitt Romney, thank you for picking Paul Ryan for your Vice President candidate. . It's a little easier for us to pull the lever for Mitt now but of course I was going to anyway. Mitt, we needed this.
'Then he will control them all, and that's socialism, whether liberals will admit it or not.'
Joe can you imagine Bush making statements like this? He is s bully of the highest order. Amazing how many people don't realize what they are asking for. I don't believe we have seen the full wrath of Barrack Obama yet. So far I don't like his nose in the air finger pointing dictatorial style. That is who he is and if he gets another 4 years America won't know what hit it because he will forge ahead,no budget,no congress like the dictator wanna be he really is. .
Maybe that's why Hollywood gives him free campaigning so he doesn't go after that industry too..
GF: You got that right!
Lisa: He has made the "Middle Class" the goal of life.
Being in the "Middle Class" has NEVER been the goal of America.
The Army slogan, "Be all that you can be" has been.
If that means "Middle Class," find. If it means "1%ers", fine.
That will not be the case under Obama
The only private sector job Paul Ryan has ever held was a brief stint driving the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
He went straight from college to politics.
Oh, and he helped pay for college with the Social Security Survivor Benefits he received after his father died.
He benefited from a Federal Government safety net program, but he doesn't want anyone else to.
Like so many on the Right (COUGHjojoeCOUGH), they have absolutely no problem taking MY federal tax dollars for THEIR benefit, they just don't want to see THEIR tax dollars going to help anyone else.
The words "greedy", "selfish" and "hypocrite" spring to mind.
The Republican Platform is "Me taking yours to pay for mine is staying within the law and there is nothing wrong with that. But YOU taking MINE to pay for YOURS is SOCIALISM!"
Such silly, silly people.
FOUR MORE YEARS! FREE DUCKY!
On a side note, looks like Jo Joe is starting to remain engaged on the Sabbath. He never used to participate in political matters on The Lord's Day.
Interesting.
Ha ha. Xavier used Paul Ryan and private sector in the same sentence.
You call Obama the child president, Joe.
What do you call someone who makes his staff read Atlas Shrugged (other than sociopath or masochist) speaking of juvenile.
Ducky - Ask any Librarian and they will tell you that "Atlas Shrugged" is classified as "YA" (Young Adult) literature.
Sad that we have a potential VP (and by extension a possible President) who doesn't realize that Ayn Rand, the most profound influence on his political point of view (other than her pesky atheism, which was at the CORE of Objectivism and which he conveniently ignores) is the philosophical analog of J.K. Rowling.
Young Adult literature is, by design, something to be outgrown. Apparently Paul Ryan is clinging to his intellectual childhood.
Not surprising. His only job was driving a Wienermobile. He doesn't want to grow up and be an adult.
XO: "The Republican Platform is "Me taking yours to pay for mine is staying within the law and there is nothing wrong with that. But YOU taking MINE to pay for YOURS is SOCIALISM!"
A totally wrong assessment of my stance.
Sunday is not the Sabbath. It is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
All political references are removed from Sunday's comments as soon as I find out they are there.
Ducky: You're on the edge again.
XO: I've never read Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand or JK Rowling. Are they any good?
Ryan is a good, decent, smart, consistant, and focused person. That is why you are so completely threatened by him, as he has character traits you know nothing about
Ryan is a good, decent, smart, consistant, and focused person. That is why you are so completely threatened by him, as he has character traits you know nothing about
I couldn't be more excited with the Ryan pick. Mittens is inextricably tied to the Ryan budget, even though he tried to say otherwise on Sat. I hope we have a substantive airing of what's in it and let 'em try and defend it.
Here's what some Catholic muckety mucks think of the good, decent Catholic boy's budget,
Nearly 60 prominent theologians, priests, nuns and national Catholic social justice leaders released a statement today refuting Rep. Paul Ryan’s claim that his GOP budget proposal reflects Catholic teaching...“This budget turns centuries of Catholic social teaching on its head. These Catholic leaders and many Catholics in the pews are tired of faith being misused to bless an immoral agenda.”
The leaders wrote: “Simply put, this budget is morally indefensible and betrays Catholic principles of solidarity, just taxation and a commitment to the common good. A budget that turns its back on the hungry, the elderly and the sick while giving more tax breaks to the wealthiest few can’t be justified in Christian terms.”
Not only that, it adds $6T to the debt in 10 years and doesn't approach a balanced budget until 2050. Let the games begin.
XO, I read "Atlas Shrugged" as a young adult. I remember thinking, even then, it was a paean to a-holes. Please tell me Ryan didn't make them watch "The Fountainhead" too. The horror, the horror.
Craig: "Nearly 60 prominent theologians, priests, nuns and national Catholic social justice leaders..."
WOW! That is so underwhelming!
60 out of thousands? Why there are thousands of Catholic theologians, tens of thousands of priests, tens of thousands of nuns and who knows how many "social justice leaders."
And you are impressed with 60?
I repeat: WOW!
Couldn't find any more than 60?
I could find 60 of any type of group that large to sign a statement obout just about anything.
60.
Of course the 60 were right and the tens of thousands of theologians, priests, nuns and national Catholic social justice leaders who did not sign the statement were all wrong.
Sounds like the kind of conclusion a liberal would draw on.
Joe, The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops also sent a letter to congress opposing the Ryan budget. I've haven't seen anyone in leadership of the Catholic Church endorse it.
For Ryan to claim his budget reflects Catholic values and principals, seems a stretch. At least to the people who should know.
His credentials as a good, decent Catholic are about as convincing as his cred as a deficit hawk. He voted FOR 2 unfunded wars, Tarp, the auto bailout, tax cuts for the wealthy, Medicare part D and Bush's $192B stimulus. Under the Ryan budget, Romney's tax burden on the only return he has made public would have been less than 1% of his income. Your tax burden would go up about $2,000.
Who's waging class warfare?
Craig: Faulty math on your part.
Or are you just parroting what you've read?
The Ryan plan would zero out the Cap. Gains Tax. Romney reported an income of $21.7M in 2010. $21.35M dividends, carried interest; capital gains (0% tax). He made "a little bit", $350,000 in speaking fees. Ryan's top marginal rate would be 25%. Romney would pay about $87,500 in taxes on $21,700,000.00. Less than 1%
The $2,000 is a guesstimate. "Closing loopholes" would mean mortgage interest deduction, charitable contributions, tax deferred savings, etc. to try and make the tax cuts revenue neutral. He can eliminate every deduction (loophole) he can find and it won't be revenue neutral.
Joe, Remember Reagan was going to raise revenue by cutting taxes? He, Laffer and David Stockman relied on "rosy scenarios". Didn't work then, didn't work for Bush and it won't work now.
Craid: Actually revenues went up. So did spending, thanks to a Democrat congress who broke their word to him (as they ALWAYS do).
Craid: Actually revenues went up.
Yes, revenues almost always go up due to inflation and population growth (the W. years are an exception, zero growth). The top marginal rate under R.R. was 50% for 6 of his 8 years. He raised taxes 11 times, nearly doubled the payroll tax. He still managed to triple the debt. He grew govt. more than Carter, Clinton or Obama.
thanks to a Democrat congress who broke their word to him (as they ALWAYS do).
You've alluded to some supposed deal before. 7 of Reagan's 8 years congress passed appropriations bills that were less than his submitted budgets. Reagan was never interested in balanced budgets.
Here are annual rates of growth of real revenue per capita over cycles:
1973-1979: 2.7% (Ford, Carter)
1979-1990: 1.8% (Reagan)
1990-2000: 3.2% (Bush I, he raised taxes, and Clinton)
2000-2008 0.0% (W.)
