SUPPORT ISRAEL? WE'D BETTER!

In the law, regarding a person on the witness stand, it is said, "Never ask a question to which you do not know the answer." Perhaps that would be a good rule for news reporters to follow also.

Part ONE:

Even those who are not particularly sympathetic to Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu could get a good measure of satisfaction from this interview with British Television during the retaliation against Hamas' shelling of Israel. The interviewer asked him: "How come so many more Palestinians have been killed in this conflict than Israelis?"

Netanyahu: "Are you sure that you want to start asking in that direction?" Interviewer: "Why not?"

Netanyahu: "Because in World War II more Germans were killed than British and Americans combined, but there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the war was caused by Germany 's aggression. And in response to the German blitz on London, the British wiped out the entire city of Dresden, burning to death more German civilians than the number of people killed in Hiroshima ... Moreover, I could remind you that in 1944, when the R.A.F. tried to bomb the Gestapo Headquarters in Copenhagen, some of the bombs missed their target and fell on a Danish children's hospital, killing 83 little children.

Perhaps you have another question?"

Part TWO: Benjamin Netanyahu gave another interview and was asked about Israel 's occupation of Arab lands. His response was, "It's our land."

The reporter was stunned - read below. "Yes, it's our land... It's important information since we don't get fair and accurate reporting from the media and facts tend to get lost in the jumble of daily events."

"Crash Course on the Arab-Israeli Conflict." (1.5 minutes to read!)

Here are overlooked facts in the current and past Middle East situation. A Christian university professor compiled these: Facts:

1. Nationhood and Jerusalem: Israel became a nation in 1312 BC, two thousand (2,000) years before the rise of Islam.

2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BC, the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand (1,000) years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.

4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 lasted no more than 22 years.

5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not bother to come visit.

6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Koran.

7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.

8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: in 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left (many in fear of retaliation by their own brethren, the Arabs), without ever seeing an Israeli soldier. The ones who stayed were afforded the same peace, civility, and citizenship rights as everyone else.

10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.

11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.

12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONLLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that hasnever been absorbed or integrated into their own people's lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.

13. The Arab-Israeli Conflict: the Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.

14. The PLO's Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.

15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.

16. The UN Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.

17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.

18. The UN was silent while the Jordanians destroyed 58 Jerusalem synagogues.

19. The UN was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

20. The UN was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

These are incredible times. We have to ask what our role should be.

What will we tell our grandchildren about what we did when there was a turning point in Jewish destiny, an opportunity to make a difference?

I will tell them that it was our moral duty to act with justice toward Israel or any other nation.

I'll will remind them of this quote from Joseph Campbell, "It's time to admit that the idea of a chosen people is just something used by primitive tribes to give themselves a leg up in the days when the snake could talk."

Some corrections are clearly needed here.

The Biblical state of Israel only existed for about 300 years.

In around 1000 BC, King David conquered Jerusalem and carved the state of Israel out of a chunk of what had been, for the previous 1000 years or so, the land of Canaan.

The Israelites felt compelled to conquer Canaan because their God told them they could have Canaan. That and the force of arms was their only claim to the land.

Israel thrived, more or less, until about 722 B.C. when it was conquered by the Assyrians.

Then conquered again by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.

Then conquered again by the Persians about 50 years later. The Persians remained in control until Alexander the Great conquered it around 331 B.C.

After the death of Alexander, the area bounced around in limbo until it came under Roman rule in about 164 B.C. This is when the area became known as Palestine.

At no time during the previous 2000 years was the are populated by a Jewish majority. It was populated by a mix of indigenous people who had been inhabiting the area continuously for 10,000 years. The Jewish people were just part of the mix.

The Roman Empire ruled Palestine until about 300 A.D. The Byzantine Empire ruled Palestine from about 300 A.D. until 638 A.D. when the Muslims took control and held it until it became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1517.

The Ottoman Empire remained in control of Palestine until the end of WWI when it was divided between the French and the British.

Although there was talk of establishing a Jewish homeland in the area, it wasn't until after WWII that the British finally punted, turned the issue over to the newly formed United Nations and let them decide what to do with Palestine.

The U.N. basically split Palestine into an Arab Palestine and a Jewish Israel in 1947. The decision was not well received in the region and remains unpopular today.

So, over the course of 10,000 years, Israel existed for 300 years because their God said so and for the last 65 years because the U.N. said so.

Israel is a consensual construct of modern international law. It's not as though Israel was brought into existence by God Himself and has remained inviolate for all of human history.

Great job on this post Joe. You Bet! We need Israel..
The United States has always looked at Israel as a ally of democracy in a region where’s there’s been nothing but uncertainties and especially in these days of the Arab Spring, and the "So Called" Muslim Brotherhood"

Israel is surrounded by all of the United Nations enemies of America the same countries who despise the peace and freedoms that America and Israel have been fighting for since I can remember.
And it's very important that we side with them now more than ever, now that we have a president who's alliance is with the Muslim Brotherhood, whoever they are!

The only real ally we have in that region is Israel.

Ignorance and racism is on the rise everywhere in America and only since Obana has been in office. But not to worry, there will be a return to conservative values come this November. Crackpot’s like Farrakhan and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be long gone before you know it and so will Barack Obama and his gang of socialist who would just as soon throw Israel to the wolves rather than risk his friendship with people like Hugo Ch├ívez, or Ahmadinejad.

I was not aware that Jews prey facing Jerusalem (The West Wall perhaps?), but I can envision a particular geographic line of points which would allow a Jew to display his/her back toward the Church of the Holy Sepulchre as he/she preyed.
Is any of this meaningful? Other than my deliberate pun on prey/pray.

I think Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said it best:

"... You declare, my friend; that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist'. And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews -- this is God's own truth.

"Anti-Semitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agree-ment. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently anti-Semitic, and ever will be so.

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land. The Jewish people, the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy Land. From this they were expelled by the Roman tryant, the same Romans who cruelly murdered our LORD. Driven from their homeland, their nation in ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish people time and again suffered the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule over them.

"The Negro people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the torment of tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa have begged, pleaded, requested -- DEMANDED -- the recognition and realization of our inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own country.

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfillment of God's promise, that His people should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land. This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less.

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is anti-Semitism.

"The anti-Semite rejoices at any opportunity to vent his malice. The times have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a hatred of the Jews. This being the case, the anti-Semite must constantly seek new forms and forums for his poison. How he must revel in the new masquerrade! He does not hate the Jews, he is just 'anti-Zionist'!

"My friend, I do not accuse you of deliberate anti-Semitism. I know you feel, as I do, a deep love of truth and justice and revulsion for racism, prejudice, and discrimination. But I know you have been misled -- as others have been -- into thinking you can be 'anti-Zionist' and yet remain true to those heartfelt principles that you and I share. Let my words echo in the depths of your soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews -- make no mistake about it."

Trust liberals to embrace "a blot on the soul of mankind."

Yes, Joe, we should support Israel but they are destroying themselves.

A majority of Israelis support a 2 state solution. They have a 48% top marginal income tax and 30% capital gains tax. 85% of public and private workforce are unionized. They have universal health care. The state pays for anyone to get a bachelors degree after a mandatory 2 years military service.

I understand why you want to assure the survival of that Socialist hellhole, so it can be destroyed by Gog and Magog, or whatever.

Aquarians Love To Cuddle said...

And the fact a majority of Israelis support a 2 state solution does not make it right, feasible or even inevitable.

Ms. Cuddles,

Haven't you been paying attention? "obama and his socialist friends" are destroying America because they think it's a good idea to do some of the things Israel and the rest of the developed world have already done. I didn't even mention that LGBT's serve openly in the Israeli military or that Israel recognizes common law gay "marriage" and gay marriages performed in other countries. Gay couples are afforded the same rights and benefits as straight, married couples. Will God lift his protection of His Chosen People over this abomination?

It's the Start-Up capital of the world and more Patents are registered by Israel than by any other country

How can that be? Aren't they punishing the Job Creators?

And Gog and Magog are/is the Soviet Union

Armies from the north, I think. Putin= Anti-christ? Pope Benedict? Carl XVI Gustav?

Anyway, if your going to base your foreign policy on the drug induced hallucinations of some guy on the island of Patmos, you know how it ends. All the nations of the world rise up against Israel, so what's the point? For Jesus to set up shop in Jerusalem, things are going to get ugly. "Stand with Israel" is merely cover, staying on the Big Guys good side when it all goes south.

Maybe Joe is some kind of Pre-trib, Amillennial Dispensationalist who will be raptured up before things get ugly. As for the people of Israel, as every True Christian knows, if you don't repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior (i.e., Jews), you're destined for an eternity in the lake of fire. Am I right or am I right?

The reason why Christians are supportive of the nation of Israel and Jews in general is that we believe what God told Abraham, "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee"
Many people like you believe that there is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ. I think that is very shallow of you to think that way. No one is forcing you to think they way you do, so why force others to think your way? Certainly, each individual, Jew and Gentile, will have to stand before God on his or her own, and we cannot claim to know the fate of every human being.
Of course Jews can get to Heaven. They just go to the Heaven that they believe in.
Jewish people believe in the “Mashiach” the “Mashiach” is a great leader who descended from King David . The Mashiach is often referred to as "Mashiach ben David" (Mashiach, son of David). The term "Mashiach" is related to the Hebrew term "Moshiah" (savior).
Some gentiles (non Jews) have tried to put an ugly spin on this theology, claiming that Jews should be forced to convert to their religion,
Jews do not believe that Jesus was the Mashiach. Assuming that he existed, and assuming that the Christian scriptures are accurate in describing him (both matters that are debatable), he simply did not fulfill the mission of the Mashiach as it is described in the biblical passages cited above. Jesus did not do any of the things that the scriptures said the Messiah would do. Jews do not believe in Jesus because he did not accomplish these tasks. I would say to you that that we must be more careful about what we say and how we think about what others believe in.
I hope that you got my point.

Craig said...

No, you're not right, in fact you sound like a freaking moron!

I read it in a book somewhere. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

What was that Reformation thing about? Justification by faith alone. We know what the guy who kickstarted the Reformation thought of the Jews. The Great Reformer and Third Reich poster boy, Martin Luther, On the Jews and Their Lies;

I had made up my mind to write no more either about the Jews or against them. But since I learned that those miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews and who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them.

Give it a read, it's a real eye opener.

This "stand with Israel" position of the fundamentalist evangelical Protestant Christian is a very recent phenomenon. You don't have to drill too deep to find it has little to do with the Jews humanity and their desire to live in peace, and everything to do with 'commanded by God' to do it. It's the same shallow reasoning and lack of humanity that allows people to loudly proclaim their solidarity with those in Iran who protested the elections, then call for leveling the country because of their nuclear ambitions. What's a few hundred thousand more dead Muslims, anyway. We've got a prophesy to fulfill!

For once Craig said something that I agree with.

"Maybe Joe SHOULD ban them all"

All Of You Vulgar Liberal's don't know when to leave well enough alone. Attacking someones faith is crossing the line and I for one think you have been acting like a bunch of disgusting school yard children. I know that I will not be participating in any further .discussions with any of you around.
Sorry Joe, it's you house, you must decide. whats best for you.

Craig: "Don't you think it's fun to mix it up a bit?"

Although it escapes most liberals, there is a difference between discussion and what goes on in this comment section.

And, no, it's not fun the way you, XO and Ducky go about it.

You behave badly, ridicule others, name-call, race-bait, de-contextualize, misinform and are generally nasty in attitude.

Those are all reserved for me on my blog, not my commenters.

As my header says: "Where I give you my slightly quirky opinion, and you can give me yours, as long as you're man or woman enough to be civil and control your language."

Key word: "civil."

I do not write for the purpose of receiving comments, pro or con. They are welcomed,as long as they are civil, but I write to express myself and my opinions.

But you three have crossed over the line of civility, and if you don't get back, I will begin deleting your comments.

You don't discuss, you attack and then whine like a baby because there is no "discussion" on this blog.

Like all liberals, you whine about the very things you do yourselves.

Frankly, I'm no longer amused by it and am weary of it.

BRAVO Joe!

Joe, would you explain what you consider uncivil?

Your guidelines prohibit swearing, which I do not do.

Other than that there are insults back and forth. You certainly allow right wingers to insult at will.

I would say YOUR snide insults and put-downs.

Joe said...

Ducky: No single person (nor any married person) insults others in the comments more than you do.

Most of those who hurl insults are retaliating at you.

I do not support such retaliation, but I do understand it.

Now I welcome you to comment on this blog, but I would implore you to: 1)stick to the subject of the post; 2)presents facts and well constructed opinions about the subject and/or 3) contradict the facts or opinions offered with well thought out actual information.

Joe - I am 100% confident that I adhere to all 3 of your conditions, and always have.

Although I have been called every vile name imaginable and have had my motives and character attacked again and again, I have never hurled a single insult or mounted any form of personal attack against you or any commentor on this blog.

I'll attack and ridicule ideas and belief systems that I think are, well, ridiculous, but only in the context of either the original post or the direction of the comment thread.

That being said, this is your house and if you want to start deleting my comments I'll take it and like it.

I really don't understand how opposing points of view are such a threat to people.

If you are so sure you are right, if you are so confidant in your world view, you should be prepared to defend it openly rather than deleting and censoring people who disagree with you.

Joe said...

XO: I haven't deleted anybody, yet!

Don't worry about it!

Just stick to the subjects of the posts and don't insult people.
