Nothing to Hide?

How many times have we heard liberals defend spying and over enforcement with some statement like, "If you have nothing to hide, why not capitulate?"

What could there possibly be to hide? Illegal aliens?

The old "abandoned" prison has 76 officers working there. What do you suppose they are guarding?

In this instance, what happened to freedom of the press?

Test: Controlling the press is one of the
early steps toward _______________

Good grief. Do you see nefarious conspiracies everywhere you look?

I can tell you exactly what this was all about because as a photographer I see it all the time. You have an over-zealous security guard who doesn't know the law trying to be a Big Man and throw his weight around.

There may indeed be a prohibition against taking photos of the prison. You will find the same prohibition at virtually every prison, military base, government installation and even around some electric or sewage plants.

But those prohibitions can only be enforced on the property of those facilities.

If you are on public property, anything that you can see from that public property, whether it is a government installation or a private residence, is fair game.

The security guard was overstepping his authority and he wound up losing the battle and looking like the ignorant fool that he is.

Not exactly the first slippery step on the road to totalitarianism.

Oh, and by the way, you NEVER hear liberals saying "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to be afraid of". Never.

XO: "The security guard was overstepping his authority..."

WE AGREE! WOW!

"...you NEVER hear liberals saying 'if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to be afraid of'. Never."

I have.

XO: Oh, and what word(s) did you use to fill in the blank?

Happens all the time.

Ducky: So, like XO, you don't know how to fill in the blank, either?

Joe, I know that doing street photography I get hassled by these guys frequently.

They can be quite persistent.

Homeland Security office, Bank of America, Federal Reserve even the MBTA (the employees don't even know their own published policy) ... I've shot them all.

For the record, Joe, you get this ridiculous meme a lot more often from conservaties.

I didn't stick around

Wasn't interested in the guard. I liked the curve of the fence.
He almost came out while I was framing it.

Joe, we didn't fill in the blank because we are not playing your little "liberals are responsible" game.

Joe - "XO: Oh, and what word(s) did you use to fill in the blank?"

I answered your question indirectly (because I thought you were sharp enough to pick up on it) in my first comment when I said:

"Not exactly the first slippery step on the road to totalitarianism."

Your mistake.
