THOUGHTS ON THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION

I chose to watch the Republican National Convention on PBS. I did that, knowing going in that it would be biased, unfair, pompous and disingenuous, but I did so to get the liberal interpretation of what was going on.

It was not disappointing.

Every commenter twisted every speech to say what it did not say, mean what it did not mean and project what it did not project. It was sickening and very difficult to watch.

See, I watched the speeches and I know what they said.

By the way, I did not need either PBS or FOX to explain the speeches to me. They were very clear, very specific, very inspirational, very hope-filled and projected an America I would like to leave for my children and grandchildren.

(I look forward to the Democrat Convention where the speeches will be about George W. Bush [who, by the way, is no longer president, in case you hadn't heard] and whose plan for the future will be filled with vagaries such as: forward; upward; different; change; etc.)

Ann Romney was inspirational and very articulate, as were they all.

Chris Christie was his usual bombastic self, although I think he stayed on message pretty well and didn't get as wild as he can get. He proclaimed that we are taking our country back from those who would drive it toward...(socialism).

One of Rick Santorum's most important points was that when his grandfather came to the U.S. from Italy (on a ship named "Providence"), there were no benefits for immigrant's except one: FREEDOM.

You know what? That is what America IS all about: FREEDOM.

This present administration has usurped our freedoms in three (almost 4) years more than they have been usurped in the past 200 years combined. They are hell-bent on being in complete control of every aspect of your life, from the bedroom to the living room and the work place as well.

The United States of America was founded on the basic principles of FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY for all people. It was NOT founded on the principle of EQUAL OUTCOME for all people. And if it were about equal outcome, I would hate it as much as I hated the former U.S.S.R., Iran, North Korea and other despotic nations. That is because equal outcome can only be accomplished by force of government. That is an anathema to the principles of our framers.

Good on Rick Santorum!

Condoleezza Rice was electrifying! Her speech was eloquent, powerful, substantive and engaging.

And that from an African-American woman.

GOV. SUSANA MARTINEZ was dynamite!

So much for the left's characterization of Republicans as anti-woman racists! That label actually belongs to the Democrats, who still practice economic slavery.

The speech given by Paul Ryan was spot on!

Ryan nailed the results of the Obama presidency to a "T." It has been a total failure, largely because President BO (the child president) is anything but a leader. He couldn't lead his way out of the proverbial wet paper sack.

Someone once said, "If you think you are a leader, look behind you. If no one is there, you're not leading, you're just out for a stroll."

The only people following PBO(tcp) are his minions, and many of them are getting tired of him.

You will notice, if you have half-a-brain, that Obama avoids his record like the plague that it is.

He has nothing to boast about except killing OBL, which he didn't plan or do, and a thieving health care act that will bankrupt Medicare and the country.  Some boast!

Then there was Clint Eastwood....hmmm. Some say he hit it out of the park. Others (like me) say, "Say, what?"

Mark Rubio was great and his personal story was vibrant and compelling.

Mitt Romney showed leadership in a fantastic way!

He was not the orator of the caliber of a John Kennedy or a Ronald Reagan, but his message, plan and story hit the bulls eye.

Time (in this case a very short time) will tell how the American people will react. We don't need any time to know how the MSM will react.

It will be a fight to the finish, but we can win.

We MUST win or kiss our nation and our FREEDOMS goodbye.

The mockery of Eastwood's empty chair was predictable... What was wrong wit it?
It was chuck full of President Obama, failures done in a comical way.
Ever hear of Bill Mahar, or Davis Letterman?
What is it about lefties that makes them change the subject when faced with facts?
All Clint Eastwood really did was to reminded everyone of the lost hope that Obama had promised. I for one liked Clint's routine, very much. It was right on target and it made me laugh at the same time.
Clint certainly gets it.
Maybe we can expect the Dems to bring in Robin Williams.or Tina Fey to counter act.
Why doesn't the media focus on Obama's failed policies instead?

Good morning, Joe. I suspect your analysis of PBS coverage has more to do with confirmation bias than their bias. I'm guilty of the same thing, listening to inane fawning from the major networks and CNN. I switched to C-Span.

Some of the speeches were good, Condi, Ann (she loves her husband, whew). Ryan gave a well crafted, well delivered pack of lies. Christie did what any self respecting narcissist blowhard would do, talk about himself for 20 minutes in a 25 min. speech before mentioning the candidate. He left out the fact that NJ is 47th in economic growth, has a 9.8 UE rate, property taxes have gone up 20% and like 49 other govs. he is (state)constitutionally mandated to balance their budgets. Big deal.

Anyway, they spent 3 days trying to 'humanize' Mitt, convince people he's a nice guy. That that is even necessary tells you all you need to know. People don't like him and I doubt the convention will change that.

On Clint. It's funny how Repubs bash Hollywood but fall all over themselves when one of The Elites is on their side. They bumped the Mitt bio video from prime time to put on an 82 year old pro choice, pro gay marriage, auto rescue supporting, father of 7 by 5 different women (only 2 of which he was married to), Republican. Genius.

So much for the left's characterization of Republicans as anti-woman racists!

Let's see how Mitt does with women, blacks and latinos in Nov.

You will notice, if you have half-a-brain, that Obama avoids his record like the plague that it is

Not really

a thieving health care act that will bankrupt Medicare and the country.

It extends the solvency by 8 years without reducing any benefits and expanding the drug coverage. If Ryan's plan is so great and will save Medicare, why does he have to assure seniors it won't affect them. Why do we have to wait 10 years for his fantastic plan?

This present administration has usurped our freedoms in three (almost 4) years more than they have been usurped in the past 200 years combined.

Joe, what are you not free to do now that were free to do 4 years ago?

"Joe, what are you not free to do now that were free to do 4 years ago?"

Is this a joke?

How about depend on our jobs?

invest without fear?

Relax that our health insurance will stay the same way we like it?

Treat ourselves, friends and family to luxuries though we know the money could even get tighter?

feel we can count on the value of our homes?

know our president's not pulling midnight on Friday appointments to the WH?

Know we have a president who doesn't lie about his past and everybody he ever knew?

Feel we've got a guy who respects our troubles due to the economy instead of seeing him and his wife take separate planes to vacations, within hours, because their schedules didn't allow them to fly together?

shall I go on?

JOE: great post. I 'treated myself' to some msnbc with a non political friend here for dinner...matthews suddenly infers the audience didn't cheer when Romney talked about helping the needy, but my friend says "look at THAT! ROmney's audio was cut off, how would we know if the audience cheered?"
Yes, Romney spoke and suddenly, the sound was cut off. Hard to hear an audience cheer if the audio's gone; and there was Matthews bragging about how Republicans don't care about others because they didn't cheer. it was amazing.

I thought the speeches were terrific, too.
Ryan didn't lie, of course, but the twisting of the left's pretty effective. (as if he'd lie knowing the left would be going thru him with a fine toothed comb?)

And EASTWOOD! Blitzer and no less than four other pundits I personally heard called it WEIRD....better WEIRD, than to actually realize how much he nailed Obama, huh?
WEIRD>..the WHite House meme lately is WEIRD> Axelrod came up with it. pretty effective.

GF: I thought the intent was top notch. The carry-out...well.

Craig: Let me tell you about phase one of ObamaCare.

As you know, I had my hip replaced. Medicare (into which I have paid wince its inception, and still do)and my supplemental plan paid for it.

However, because of the new rules, my medical leave paid me $29.35 for 21 days of short term disability. They call it an offset because of my social security income.

Last year, with my heart trouble, I was paid 75% of my income for the same length of short-term medical disability. No offset.

Some hope & change.

Z: Right on. And the list is really a long one. Craig can't see it because his rose colored glasses are much too dark.

How about depend on our jobs?

Dec., 2008, the month before Obama took office. -600,000 jobs. 4M jobs lost in 2008. Sept., 2012, +163,000 jobs. 4.2M jobs added in last 24 months. Not great but better than 4 years ago.

invest without fear?

NYSE Jan., 2009, 7,200 and falling. Aug., 2012, 13,150.

Relax that our health insurance will stay the same way we like it?

30M more Americans covered. You, Z, won't be dropped from your current plan for a newly discovered pre-existing condition. Dropped because you reached your lifetime cap. Preventive care like mammograms, cancer screens and birth control(?) covered.

Treat ourselves, friends and family to luxuries though we know the money could even get tighter?

Independent analysts from The Economist to Moodys to to the Tax Policy Center and more, have all concluded that the Romney/Ryan plan will lead to higher middle class taxes, exploding debt, job loss and more redistribution of wealth to the top. Tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation haven't worked for 35 years but that's all they got.

Since when is govt. responsible for your emotional state? All you mentioned is fear and worry about what's going to happen. Your free to live in fear and divorced from reality. Your free to believe in conspiracies about Obama's shady past and his anti-colonial worldview. What Constitutional individual freedom have you lost?

We MUST win or kiss our nation and our FREEDOMS goodbye.

Hyperbole or paranoia?

Craig: "Hyperbole or paranoia?"

Neither. But you won't recognize it until it is too late.

You don't recognize it yet, so why would we think you'd recognize it later?

Craig said...

Joe, short term medical leave is paid by your supplemental plan. I could be wrong but, I know of no provision in Obamacare that would effect those payments. Maybe you could point me to it. It sounds like your private provider made that decision just because they can.

You don't recognize it yet, so why would we think you'd recognize it later?

Please enlighten me. Specifically, what freedoms are we losing? Z seems to think govt.s role is to free her from anxiety. That doesn't really fit the small govt. philosophy. We don't have to speculate on what the Republican plan to cut taxes on the wealthy and deregulation cause, we're still trying to dig out of it. Why do you think it will work this time?

So what happened three elections ago to give capitalism indigestion? Well, first it involved kicking democracy in the balls and shoving in Mr. CEO President who delivered a near perfect checklist of conservative ideology. Lower taxes on the rich? Done. Capital gains tax cuts? Even done-er. Knock down regulations put in place to save capitalism the last time it went into an autocannibalistic fit? The done-est. Be free, little market capitalism, be free! Oh, and conservative bonus points for starting two massive "we'll show you who's boss" star-spangled wars. So what did we get from this conservative wet dream?

Today, that economic hegemony seems a distant memory. We have watched the bursting of two giant financial bubbles, wiping out the paper wealth many of us thought we had in our homes and retirement accounts. We have suffered through two long recessions and a lost decade of income growth for the average family. We continue to rack up large trade and budget deficits. Virtually all of the country’s economic growth and productivity gains have been captured by the top 10 percent of households, while moving up the economic ladder has become more difficult. And other countries are beginning to turn to China, Germany, Sweden and even Israel for lessons in how to organize their capitalist economies.

Um. Yeah. And before anyone strikes up the "but Bush ran up huge debts, so he wasn't a real conservative" band, note that everything, everything, Bush did was strictly from the conservative handbook, the one that promised if we did all these things, the nation would grow so quickly that we could strike the word "debt" from the dictionary.
Obama on the other hand has been very inspiring, he has inspired MILLIONS of people to vote for Mitt Romney!
And Communism is hardly inspiring, like staring at those faded Obama posters in your childhood bedroom.
