THREE CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS

The bill is H.R. 347, benignly titled the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act, passed the House 399-3.

The law purports to update an old law, Section 1752 of Title 18 of the United States Code, that restricted areas around the president, vice president, or any others under the protection of the Secret Service. The original law was enacted in 1971 and amended in 2006.

At first blush, the big change here is that while the old law made it a federal offense to "willfully and knowingly" enter a restricted space, now prosecutors need only show that you did it "knowingly"—that you knew the area was restricted, even if you didn’t know it was illegal to enter the space.

Big change from the Lincoln administration, when people could wander into the White House to seek an audience with the President, or the FDR administration, when people used the White House grounds as a lovers' lane.

You know something is wrong when politicians have reason to fear the people.

Joe, Yesterday you wrote,

See tomorrows post for a wonderful example of the progress made by liberals.

The House vote on H.R. was 399-3. 223 Republicans voted for it. How can you blame Liberals for this? Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) in the House brought it to the floor, citing a request from the Secret Service. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT.) was the Senate sponsor. It couldn't get any more bipartisan.

To their credit, 2 Repubs voted against it as well as my Rep., Keith Ellison (Muslim-MN). I won't defend this and you won't find many real Liberals defending it. Big difference from the days when Conservatives were defending the Bush Admins. unconstitutional use of wire tapping, torture, unitary executive, etc. You'll be happy to hear, Joe, the ACLU is watching out for us.

Rest assured we'll[ACLU] be keeping an eye on how this law will be interpreted and used by law enforcement — especially in light of the coming elections.

Craig: "How can you blame Liberals for this?"

I actually blame government...a government that is too big, too powerful and too much interested in its own benefit, rather than the benefit of the people.

There are liberals in both the Democrat Party and the Republican Party.

I can only hope we flush the liberal Republicans down the political toilet.

This renews my faith in the total corruption of politicians.

Ah, an extension of The Patriot Act, that gift that keeps on giving.

... but as Craig says, Joe, the hated ACLU may have our back on this disgrace.

Send them a contribution,

Dave, I think "Shelia" isn't interested in debate, only in coming to blogs and acting disruptive and making incoherent comments.

Thanks for the examples. You got it right.

BTW, the syntax of "Shelia's" comments reminds me of a commenter from some other conservative blogs who calls itself
"Aquarians Love to Cuddle

Well L.R. something is wrong.

We have seen progressive militarization of the police as they crack down on dissent as the wealth in this country continues to be transferred to the top 5%.

The difference between the left and right is that the right supports the transfer so you really can't be too surprised that the government is taking measures to surpress the resulting protests.

Let's Learn From the Past Mistakes and Vote this Disaster Out! Common sense tells us that we just can not afford to make the same mistake again. But then again, I'm preaching to the Choir and to a few Liberal Nut-Cases..

With the Unemployment news that came out yesterday, I'd think that Obama would serve this country and his party well, to withdraw his nomination from the ballot for president within the next few weeks, giving the Democrats enough time to muster a new candidate before election time. That way, he can resign a la Richard Nixon style with a smooth transition of power, leaving the helm to Joe Biden, an undisputed raving Idiot.
HISTORY WILL PROVE HOW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WERE DUPED, LETS NOT LET THAT HAPPEN TWICE..

Since taking office, Obama has invested billions of taxpayer dollars in private businesses, including as part of his stimulus spending bill. Many of those investments have turned out to be unmitigated disasters — leaving in their wake bankruptcies, layoffs, criminal investigations and taxpayers on the hook for billions.!!!!!

A line from the song "Memories" keep haunting me today:

"Tell me, if we had it all to do over again, would we? –– could we?"

Apparently, I'm supposed to be more outraged by what Mitt Romney does with his money, than by what Barack NObama does with mine.

Stolen and "redistributed" from "GEEEEEZ' blog.

He MUST be defeated in November else we are certainly doomed.!

Seems to me that some of us with brains has a job to do.
