SUNDAY SAYINGS FROM OUR FOUNDERS-Elbridge Gerry

Elbridge Gerry: SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; MEMBER OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION; FRAMER OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS, GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Called on the State of Massachusetts to pray that:

". . . with one heart and voice we may prostrate ourselves at the throne of heavenly grace and present to our Great Benefactor sincere and unfeigned thanks for His infinite goodness and mercy towards us from our birth to the present moment for having above all things illuminated us by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, presenting to our view the happy prospect of a blessed immortality."

"Jesus CHRIST?" I thought everybody was a "DEIST" back then! Alert the media! :-)

Z: Yeah...that's what the myth is. In fact, there were few diests in early America. Even Thomas Jefferson, despite what has been written about him by leftists, was not a true diest.

He did not believe in the miracles of Christ and had severe doubts about His diety, yet he recognized him as "godly" and worthy of followship.

Under no circumstances would Jefferson have restricted the expression of belief of ANY dedicated Chrsitian, whether in private, public forum or in government.

Joe, Say thank you to the Courts of these United States for having the wisdom to seperate completely the state from Religion...except for a certain one that I won't mention because they have had enough headlines....stay well in Christ .....
