IT COULDN'T BE SAID BETTER

ADDENDUM:

For those of you who have listened to too much loud music and can no longer hear clearly, I now provide this transcript of this video.

( Aside) “I can never think in advance what to say. Correct.

“And I listen to what other people say, and I think I want to address what Ms Weinberg said about this being personal. This is personal. This is personal to me. And I take it personally because I took an oath when I joined the military in 1970 to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

“Another thing people say all the time is, 'Let’s respect the other guy’s opinion.'

“I cannot respect oath-breakers. Anybody who’s holding a public office has taken the oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. That does not mean you put how you feel first…how you emotionally react to a tragedy first. Because you think it’s better…that I would be safer, you abrogate my Constitutional rights. That’s breaking you oath and I have no respect for that.

(Applause).

“I am a mom, and there’s only one thing that I’m afraid of: and that’s the people in elected office taking away my rights. I’m not afraid of the crook who’s going to come to my door because if my dogs don’t get him I will. That’s my job...to defend myself. It’s not your job to protect me, it’s not your job to defend me. It’s your job to protect the Constitution and protect my rights to defend myself.

“We've all gone through tragedies, particularly people like me who’s family goes back generations in the military. We've got a lot of caskets in the ground, dead by gun bullets.

“But…the whole thing about gun laws is synonymous with drunken drivers in cars. Drunken drivers misuse cars and kill people. They've killed thousands of children, a lot of our teenagers. Do we ban cars?  No, we don’t. We’re not trying to get rid of cars with a bigger engine, alright, or car that can go faster than the other one. This is utterly and completely ridiculous. Thank you.”

She seems quite passionate about the Second Amendment.

I wonder how passionate she is about the rest of the Bill of Rights.

How about the First Amendment?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

So she would be OK with local mosques in her New Jersey township broadcasting the Islamic call to prayer from loudspeakers five times a day. She'd be cool with that, right?

How about the Fourth Amendment?

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

I assume that she would be against the "stop and frisk" procedures on urban streets, the NSA policy of recording every single phone call, email and text message between anyone anywhere just in case they might need it later, and the ridiculously intrusive DUI checkpoints that stop innocent citizens so that local law enforcement can conduct warrantless fishing expeditions for any minor infractions in order to fatten the city, county or state coffers.

Of course, we already know how people like her and you feel about the Fifth Amendment. Just a legal loophole to let guilty people go free!

Even though that position negates the Ninth Amendment.

The most fervent supporters of the Second Amendment are also the quickest to completely dismiss the Sixth, Seventh and Eight Amendments otherwise Ted Nugent and Wayne LaPierre would be the most vocal spokespersons for closing Gitmo.

But supporters of the Second Amendment do generally support the Tenth Amendment because they interpret it to mean that states can engage in any form of blatant discrimination and racism that they choose to because of "history" and "culture".

So basically, you right wing nut jobs only really support 20% of the Bill of Rights.

Cherry Pickers.

XO: "I wonder how passionate she is about the rest of the Bill of Rights."

I wonder why you would wonder that. It has no relevance to what she was saying.

To impose your suppositions on her about things of which she did not speak is so typical of the liberal mind set as to be stereotypical.

You place yourself squarely in the mold of one who believes himself so smart that he can read the minds of others.

"I assume..." is proof of that. You have no basis on which to assume anything about her thoughts on topics she did not discuss.

As for the Fifth Amendment, what a disturbingly absurd statement! Conservatives strongly uphold the concept of the Fifth Amendment. It is the way a liberal administrator used it that is infuriating. The Fifth Amendment prevents us from having to testify against ourselves in criminal cases. It is there to keep government from forcing one to admit wrong doing when no wrong doing has been done. In other words, to prevent despotism. It forces the state to prove its case apart from the testimony of the accused.

"...otherwise Ted Nugent and Wayne LaPierre would be the most vocal spokespersons for closing Gitmo."

A false conclusion from the facts given.

"I assume that she would be against the "stop and frisk" procedures on urban streets, the NSA policy of recording every single phone call, email and text message between anyone anywhere just in case they might need it later..."

I can't speak for her, and neither can you. But I, for one, would be four square against "stop and frisk" no matter the environment. I also oppose the so-called Patriot Act.

I oppose DUI check points, although I have never taken a drink in my life and don't want drunk drivers on the road. (Should I assume you do want drunk drivers on the road?)

"So she would be OK with local mosques in her New Jersey township broadcasting the Islamic call to prayer..."

How could you possibly know what she'd be alright with? You have ascribed to her facts not in evidence.

I would not like such broadcasts very much, but I would not take steps to stop them unless they became (or represented) a threat to the peace of the community.

In some circumstances it would become a 2nd cousin to yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

I have to say, you liberals are certainly consistent in your inconsistency. You are haughty, arrogant, self-serving ideologues who still believe in enslaving and controlling people through government and circumstance. It is very sad.

RE: Fifth Amendment - "It is there to keep government from forcing one to admit wrong doing when no wrong doing has been done."

Which is exactly how it was used by the IRS commissioner.

The video is poor quality, Joe and I couldn't catch her whole statement.

I believe it had something to do with the Kenyan,Muslim, commie in the White House sending U.N. blue helmets to confiscate her guns. In other words, she's a gun loon.

Firearms become aphrodisiacs for these loons and no reasonable conversation is possible.

Joe - I couldn't understand enough of what she was saying but those present seemed to like it.

Obviously she is supportive of the 2nd ammmendment. Good for her. I am too. I'm just not for all of the gun laws - I want better background checks and not some of these war weapons to be bought so easily.

Gang: Clean your ears out! I understood every word she said. Do you need a transcript?

Xavier Onassis said...

The audio quality IS crap. And she sounds like she might be drunk.

So yeah, transcript, subtitles, whatever ya got.

Her books were recently reissued, Joe. You should take a look. "Speedboat" would rock your world.

Ducky: "Speedboat" Very boring and supercilious.

You read, Speedboat, Joe?

A side of Joe we've never seen although I wouldn't call it supercilious.

Joe said...

Ducky: I've read a lot of things that might surprise you.

I'll bet I've read more things that you haven't read than you've read that I haven't.

I've been reading a long time.
