IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Obama went on to say,

That’s how some of our biggest accomplishments like health care got done -- mobilizing the American people...to concentrate having a much more constant conversation with the American people so they can put pressure on Congress to move issues forward.

Mittens said in 2007,

Sen. McCain has been there in Washington 27 years. So he certainly has political skill, but I believe that at this time, to change Washington, it would be helpful to have somebody who comes with more private sector skill, experience outside Washington. I don't think you change Washington from the inside. I think you change it from the outside.

Poor Mittens. Hey Joe, you are one of the lazy 47 %'ers mooching off govt. That's "In Mitt's own words".

Craig: Hey Craig, I get up and work an 8 hour day on an actual job 5 days per week and have a part time position as well.

I currently pay income taxes. I also pay into both Social Security and Medicare. So, although I am among the 47% ( actually 49%), I still pay into the system, so I am not among the lazy ones, and am not mouching off the goverment.

Every person on Social Security or receiving Medicare Benefits is included in the 47% (49%).

You're starting to get it, Joe. The 47% also includes students, Veterans and the working poor. Most people receiving "entitlements" are entitled to them because they paid into it. I'm not writing you off, Mitt Romney did.

Craig: "I'm not writing you off, Mitt Romney did."

See, that is patantly wrong. He was not writing the 47% off. Not even by inuendo.

He was, as you already know, if you are 1/2 as smart as I think you think you are, stating a fact about the far reach of the government and the unsustainable cost thereof.

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

There is nothing ambiguous about that statement. The 47% that don't pay income taxes see themselves as victims. They don't take responsibility for themselves and they won't vote for him. Who are the 47%? According to the Tax Policy Center,

two-thirds of households that paid no income tax did pay payroll taxes. And most people also pay some combination of state, local, sales, gas and property taxes...more than half of the filing units not paying income taxes are those with incomes less than $16,812 per year. Nearly a third - 29.2 percent - of those paying no income taxes are tax filers earning between $16,812 and $33,542, and 12.8 percent are those with incomes between $33,542 and $59,486.

People who are working and either make such crappy wages (like Staples employees) or they are eligible for a mortgage deduction, child tax credits or the earned income tax credit. All of which were championed by Repubs. Who else?

44 percent (of the 47%) are moved off the tax rolls by elderly tax benefits

Lazy victims not taking responsibility. There's more,

The same data shows that in 2011, 78,000 tax filers with incomes between $211,000 and $533,000 paid no income taxes; 24,000 households with incomes of $533,000 to $2.2 million paid no income taxes, and 3,000 tax filers with incomes above $2.2 million paid no income taxes.

Slackers.

Sure, Joe. Too many on unemployment and food stamps. A good job will cure that. Stagnant wages and people dropping into poverty didn't start 4 years ago. It's a 30 year trend. A low wage over-supply of workers is a Romney paradise. The top 1% saw their incomes rise 13% last year. Corporate profits are at an all time high. Effective tax rates are at a 75 year low. Mitt wants to give them more tax breaks. That's unsustainable.

the earned income tax credit was a BIPARTISAN act

History has a liberal bias. Saint Ronnie

The Romney-Ryan campaign labels the 47 percent of people who don’t pay federal income taxes as “takers.” But to President Reagan, the godfather of today’s conservatives, anyone who worked for a living was a maker, whether he or she paid taxes or not. Reagan strongly supported the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which sends checks to Americans who work but earn less than around $46,000 a year, depending on family size. Recipients of the credit are among those who don’t pay income tax, but Reagan never regarded that as a problem. His administration estimated that the 1986 reform of the tax code would remove 6 million working poor from the tax rolls. Reagan called the reform a “sweeping victory for fairness” and “perhaps the biggest antipoverty program in our history.”

Under Reagan the number of people not paying federal income tax grew by 10%. Under W. it grew by 25%.

From the CBO, Trends in the Distribution of Household Income Between 1979 and 2007

between 1979 and 2007, income grew by:

275 percent for the top 1 percent of households,
65 percent for the next 19 percent,
Just under 40 percent for the next 60 percent, and
18 percent for the bottom 20 percent.

The "job creators" are doing fine. Why aren't they creating jobs?

Craig, you might also mention that the earned income tax credit was a BIPARTISAN act that was supported by the Wall Street Journal and other conservative voices as a way to aid the working poor getting off welfare.

It has been effective but the Randian masters want more. They want it all and will try to take away even the crumbs of social democracy from those working poor.

That the right is ignorant of their recent history and have abandoned all sanity to the siren call of the likes of Malkin,Limbaugh and Hannity is truly frightening.

Note: Due to Joe's deletions this post may appear out of order.
