DOING BETTER ALL THE TIME

Who knew it was working so well?

The Obama administration has bragged about the success they have had in increasing the high school graduation rate under his "plan." According to the Huffington Post it is going swimmingly.

Well, maybe not so much.

What he doesn't tell you is how much the standards for graduation have been lowered. In fact, they have been lowered so much that 80% of high school graduates in New York City have to undergo remedial courses to make it in the first year of the City University's community college system.

There is nothing like good leadership from the President. And this is...nothing like good leadership.

He is, after all, the amateur president.

I haven't heard much bragging. Arne Duncan ha been pushing the same privatization scheme that came to full bloom under Bush.

More standardized tests. Well, it isn't working and we really don't have a grasp on the failure of education in very poor communities.

It's a problem that cannot be solved by the school system alone is all I know.

Ducky: The president's "plan" is called Race to the Top. It was and is supposed to be as the ultimate solution to the education problem in America.

"Race to the Top marks a historic moment in American education. This initiative offers bold incentives to states willing to spur systemic reform to improve teaching and learning in America’s schools. Race to the Top has ushered in significant change in our education system, particularly in raising standards and aligning policies and structures to the goal of college and career readiness. Race to the Top has helped drive states nationwide to pursue higher standards, improve teacher effectiveness, use data effectively in the classroom, and adopt new strategies to help struggling schools."

It is a monumental flop!

"American students rank far below other advanced countries in math and science. American teens do rate No. 1 in one area—self-confidence."

In other Words, they deceive themselves.
