PREVENTABLE, BUT NOT THE WAY YOU MAY THINK

My heart goes out to those parents who lost their children in that unimaginable massacre in a Connecticut elementary school.

A demented person, for yet unknown reasons, went into the school with pistols in his hands and a "Bushmaster" style rifle in his truck, shot the principal of the school and executed at least 20 children.

It has also become known that he killed at least one other person in the house where he apparently lived, possibly his mother.

No one knows his politics, his background or very much about him at this writing, but this much is clear: there was no acceptable reason for such as this to happen.

There will never come a time when we will understand why a person chooses to take out whatever is wrong in his/her life on innocent children and adults.

CBS, after making the point on many occasions during their reporting that now is not the time to discuss the political implications of this horrid act or to address the issue of gun control, went on to discuss the political implications of this horrid act and addressed the issue of gun control.

Bob Shaffer, more than once, asked the question, "How far are we willing to let this go?" He made it abundantly clear that he was espousing some form of gun control.
President Obama issued a statement in which he said, "It is time to take meaningful action, regardless of the politics."

There are those who are of the mind set that if we just banned enough guns these events would cease to take place.

That is not true.

If we outlawed ALL guns, these events would still take place.

What I am afraid of is that people will conclude that the collection of ALL guns will come to be required by the federal government. That would be a direct infringement of Second Amendment rights.

"But it is for the good of the people," will come the response from many.

No, it would not be.

And it would make little or no difference in whether or not the type of event that occurred in Connecticut would take place again.

People whose psyche bring them to this point will find a way to accomplish what they intend by any means possible, whether legal or not.

Why do we think people who would commit an act of horror such as this, which is illegal, would follow legal boundaries in planning and implementing the event?

We are reaping the results of the Godless direction this country has taken. Some have taken it with pride and regularly spout their venom of Godlessness, as though it makes no difference.

Well, it DOES make a difference.

It makes a difference because the arrogance, hatred and intolerance of those who espouse the Godless philosophies are the very personification of the attitude that the perpetrators of these awful events hold.

Until we reach the hearts of men and women in America with the source and essence of loving their neighbors, these events will continue and there is nothing anyone can do or say that will eliminate them.

May those Godless people re-examine their attitude toward the God loving members of this society and allow us to freely reach out to enough people to change their hearts and thus help remove their bent to these unthinkable acts.

I saw a picture stating that you cannot disarm evil, and you cannot.

I believe with all sincerity, that if the staff had been trained and earned licenses to carry weapons, this tragedy could have been prevented.

I am NOT going to allow liberals or Obama to use this tragedy to disarm citizens.

We need to protect our families.

Leticia: We must remain ever diligent, lest those who can't see the unintended consequences use events like these to disarm citizens.

I don't own a gun, but I will shoot anybody who tries to take away my right to posess one.

Well, maybe that's an exageration.

Or not.

I agree, but there's no doubt in my mind that the Left will try to blame the Republicans the gun and bible totters, but that is like blaming the fork for obesity, or cars for drunk drivers. The problem must be attacked at its roots how about todays entertainment like the violent videos, or the music industry, like the words in their anti white, anti police, songs! Also these Parents who rather party then take care and teach their own kids.We all must speak out in our churches, synagogues and mosques must speak out forcefully against violence.
In this case, I think the shooting may turn out to be a case of a sick young man´s rage against his own mother. A mother who should have known better than to have all these guns in the house without even having heme locked up.

FtRS: "A mother who should have known better than to have all these guns in the house without even having heme locked up."

Maybe. But in the vast majority of homes where there are guns, they never cause a problem.

I think the issue still goes to the heart of man and our inability to know how to deal with people who are prone to compulsive or obsessive violence.

This guy had this planed well ahead of time and someone should have recognized and dealt with his symptoms.

But the left has made us so afraid to confront anybody who is "different," that just because someone behaves a certain way somehow no longer gives us the right to say or do anything about it for fear of being ridiculed or worse.

Twenty children are dead and 6 or more adults because no one dared confront this guy in the name of political correctness.

Another presumably unintended consequence of leftist thought.

Joe - This shooting would not have been prevented from gun control laws since these guns were bought legally.

But I believe that there should be better gun control laws - that might prevent another shooting where gun were taken from gun stockpiles - as happened before.

This shooting seems to have been done by a mentally ill person - which is what we need to concentrate on.

What happened yesterday - is hard to wrap our mind around - and we pray for the families for what they are going through.

Well Joe, your "Well-Regulated Militia" shot up another school.
Please tell the children's parents you were "protecting their freedom".

Joe - "We are reaping the results of the Godless direction this country has taken".

Oh puhleeze. How many cases of child molestation has your God prevented in his own churches?

So the solution is more guns, Joe.

Didn't help his mother much. In fact, if she didn't own firearms she might still be alive and this might not have happened.

Something to think about.
Notice the assumption by the fringe right that the guns weren't secured.

So now we recruit teachers on the basis of having a carry permit? Or do we station one of those imposing S.W.A.T. teams in elementary schools.
Kids learn best that way?

There may not be a good solution to this but so long as the idea that doubling down is the only acceptable action we get nowhere.

The mother may have been shot for having tried to keep her guns locked up; we don't know that. The details are changing by the minute and we'll never know what happened at home.

We must stop the left from "all or nothing" nonsense. Nobody's saying we need to all carry guns and shooting's fun. And the new and laughable meme I've heard THREE TIMES TODAY from lefties on TV is "the Republicans won't talk gun control WITH THIS PRESIDENT" :-)

Ya, cuz he's black. or they hate him. or they're sour grapes over the election...are those the implications? so sad that our left is so powerfully effective in their deceptions and misrepresentation.

Z said...

by the way, last night on Piers Morgan he screeched at a man not interested in locking all guns up tomorrow "YOU COME BACK WHEN YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR OPINION!"

That's what happens when leftists actually demean themselves by having a fair and balanced discussion with someone they disagree with. DON'T COME BACK!" MAN.

And let's not forget that the full story is coming out now and that includes the actions of the teachers who kept their wits protected their students and saved lives.

Maybe more were saved in this manner than would have been if the teachers had tried to quick draw.

Amazing the public school teachers, union members, took time out from thinking about their pay and benefits to save the lives of their students.

Joe said...

XO: "Oh puhleeze. How many cases of child molestation has your God prevented in his own churches?"

None. Zero.

You confuse the depravity of man with the actions of God.

The use of the term "allow" indicates a complete lack of understanding of the character of God and the free will of man.

Ducky: "Maybe more were saved in this manner than would have been if the teachers had tried to quick draw."

Maybe more would have been saved if the perp had been killed early on.

Do you even have brains enough to consider that dead men don't shoot guns?

Just askin'

Joe said...

Ducky: Might, might, might, might, might might...

Typical libthought.

EVERY "might" has a "might not" attached.

It means nothing.

Ducky's here said...

Joe, I'll take your little ad hominem as an admission that you see the problems with your argument and do not wish honest discussion.

Joe said...

Ducky: Take it however you wish.

Just don't try to convence me that if a gunman comes into a room determined to kill a bunch of people, but somebody takes him out after he has killed only three, as a dead man he will still be able to kill the rest of the people he had intended to.

Xavier Onassis said...

Joe - Oh, I understand the "character of God and the free will of man" perfectly. So did Epicurus.

If God is willing but unable to rid the world of evil, then he is not omnipotent.

If God is able but not willing, then he is malevolent.

If he is both able and willing, whence cometh evil.

If he is neither willing nor able, why call him God.

The "character" of your "God" does not stand up to close scrutiny.

Joe said...

XO: WOW! That's really deep! At 70 years of age, I had never heard that before! Did Epicurus really say all of that?

Oh, how, pray tell (oops, I didn't mean to use the word "pray") did I get this old without ever hearing that one?

I'll bet a whole area of philosophy could be named after him. We could call it Epicureanism. Too bad only a few fragments and letters of his written works remain.

And I thought Epicurius was someone who wanted to know more about skin.

Gee, Golly. Maybe I'll have to just admit my naivety and submit to your superior intellect (or at least that of Mr. Epicurus).

How I wish I had thought of some of your "original" thoughts.

I feel so inadequate in the presence of such an advanced philosopher as you.

You have shown me the error of my ways. You have enlightened me. Now I know that I should be inspired by likes of you.

How did you ever get to be so smart?

And original in your thinking...so wise.

Ducky's here said...

Why do you assume he doesn't shoot the teacher immediately. Especially knowing the teachers are armed?

You beg a lot of questions, Joe and your proposal is very shaky.

Of course your next move would probably be arming the students.

Ducky's here said...

Nice job, XO.

Sounds like you scored a right to the chin.

Joe said...

Ducky: So far the people who have been killed by these maniacs have been un-armed.

Can you remember a time when these wackos have attacked people who were armed?

The only times that has happened (think McDonalds and others), the attacker has been killed in the middle of his tirade.

Whose side do the results come down on...yours or mine?

(By the way, through exquisite sarcasm I totally ducked XO's swing).

Xavier Onassis said...

Joe - You totally failed to answer any of the questions Epicurus asked.

Want a Mulligan? Care to try again?

Ducky's here said...

@Joe --- Whose side do the results come down on...yours or mine?
-------
Give it a read

There are some holes in the article for sure but it destroys your claim that mass shootings have been stopped by armed citizens. n fact, we ave no idea what would happen.

Pitch till you win.

Joe said...

XO: "You totally failed to answer any of the questions Epicurus asked."

He has never asked me anything.

I've answered them multiple times in my lifetime and may get around to dealing with them again someday.

For now, I guess you'll just have to live with not knowing the correct answers until I'm in the mood.

Ducky: "... n fact, we ave no idea what would happen."

Well, we've tried it your way, and so far it has not done well.

Gunmen just keep killing until they get around to killing themselves.

No gun law has stopped these tragic events so far.

Washington DC, which has the toughest gun laws in the nation, also leads the nation in people killed or injured by guns.

A person who really wanted a solution might consider trying something else.

Xavier Onassis said...

Joe - You don't have any answers to Epicurus. His logic is unassailable.

Joe said...

XO: I have asailed it many times.

Xavier Onassis said...

Joe - You can't and won't.
