Fundamental Change

PBO (the amateur president) lashed out at FOX News for some imagined way they report news by seeking out the radical exception to the rule and reporting on it, instead of presenting the liberal side of an issue.

Historically, the job of the press has been to help expose government excesses, corruption and largess. In the past few decades, though, there has been a change in how government behavior gets reported. The Main Stream Press discovered that there is an abundance of perks for them if they do not hit too hard at liberal political leaders and hit very hard at conservative political leaders.

Media such as the New York Times, MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC and a host of left wing blogs have discovered that they gain certain access to celebrities and politicians if they go easy on their foibles and make them look really cool.

If any of the media ever put pressure on a politician to change his/her behavior, you can be certain that the politician is a conservative.

Now FOX News comes along and points out things that the other MSM will not point out, such as the far too many people who vote for politicians like PBO (the amateur president) because he has dangled "ObamaPhones" or any of a myriad of other carrots in front of them, and FOX gets castigated by the rest of MSM and the liberal president.

Is there a liberal who yearns for the day when the MSM actually recognized stories and reported on them factually?

Example? Hillary Clinton.

So, how many of the issues of her moral character, her lack of action, her lying and cheating, and her hypocrisy relating to women's pay do you read or watch in the MSM. Have you seen reported in any of the media mentioned in paragraph 3 above that she pays her female employees $.72 for every $1.00 she pays her male employees? Have you seen anything but ridicule from the significance of her lost and found Emails?

You just don't see the MSM actually doing their job any more. You get only one point of view in the dozens of op ed pieces. The only place you find opposite views is on FOX News, in conservative blogs and in the few conservative newspapers. You NEVER see opposing views by hosts of the weekend talking heads.

But just like he wants to fundamentally change the United States of America, PBO (the amateur president) wants to fundamentally change the "how the media reports."

The role of the media is to keep that from happening.

Bu they won't.

Let's see - changing the way the media reports; I can't see anything wrong with that. After all, it was done in Nazi Germany and is still being done in Russia and China.

You might find this informative, Joe

As for Glenn's silliness, I would ask him to review the role of "Jailhouse" Judith Miller and her invented "Curveball" in the run up to the unmitigated disaster in Iraq.
The Washington Post wasn't much better.

But in Glenn's world apparently anything left of World News Daily is liberal trash. Sad.
Give the article a read, Glenn.

Ducky,

What has that link got to do with the idea of the government deciding how media reporting should be done?!?!

Sometimes you can be so obtuse.

I thought you might benefit from a look at how the media are evolving rather than hanging on to some insane idea that we are living in Nazi Germany.

If you want a good running discussion on the state of reporting, The Professional Left podcast is pretty incisive.
Or you can stick with your worn out cliches. Your choice.

Ducky,

The point of my comment was directed at Obama's claim about the need - implying government need - to change the way the media reports. I.e., to control the press. I never implied we were living in Nazi Germany any more than I implied we were living in China or Russia. My point was that in those countries the press has been controlled -- and we see how well that works out.

You really need to stop with all your straw man charges.

GEC: Think Pravda.

Ducky: The "run up" to Iraq has nothing to do with the way the MSM is opining rather than reporting or holding accountable. The only people they hold accountable are their enemies, the conservatives.

"...some insane idea that we are living in Nazi Germany."

Glenn never said that. But I'm sure you can twist what he said into what you said he said, even though he didn't say it.

JS: I'm afraid that isn't news, it's just what happened.

Ducky: Besides, the issue is not "Jailhouse" Judith Miller, it is the president of the United States of America who wants to fundamentally change the way news is reported through censorship.

I thought liberals didn't like censorship.

Oh, yeah. That's only when they're the ones being censored.

Maybe President Obama was onto something...

"Another problem is that Republican voters get so much of their news from Fox, which cheerleads whatever their candidates are doing or saying, that they suffer from wishful thinking and fail to see that they may not be doing as well as they imagine, or that their ideas are not connecting outside the narrow party base. As a recent academic study found:

‘Exposure to programs featured on Fox News, such as those hosted by Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, resulted in a greater wishful thinking effect by Romney supporters. In other words, while Romney supporters were substantially more likely to predict their candidate would win the 2012 presidential election, watching Fox News programming exacerbated this effect.’

It may be that some Republican Fox viewers became complacent and didn’t work as hard as they might if they had been more aware of how badly Romney was doing in the final days of the campaign."

One might be inclined to relegate this quote to a liberal simpleton, were it not part of the research done by Bruce Bartlett, longtime conservative economist with work in both the Reagan and Bush the Elder administrations.

FOX News hurting the GOP

DM: So what about guys like me who watch NBC, CBS and ABC but NEVER FOX News, because I cannot get it, since I don't have cable.

I do occasionally follow FOX Nation online.

Plus, although I voted for Romney, I never thought he had a chance, mainly because he was unable to look real in a debate. He always looked somewhat surprised at what was going on.

I hope we conservatives nominate a Ted Cruz or a Scott Walker. Either of those would win in a landslide.

Walker could indeed win... Cruz however has no chance... IMNSHO..
