Think of all the offense and hurt feelings you just gave!

Lisa: Yeah. But it's not the team, it's the foolish bleeding heart PC crowd.

GEC: Well, they offended me first. So, they deserve it.

AHA, on comment moderation...excellent.
And "Thin Skins"...also excellent, Lisa.
No, Joe, it is NOT a pejorative; depending on how the team's doing, it's a compliment to Native Americans! :-)

Z: I had something named after me once. I was flattered. Native Americans used to be flattered when things were named after them. But liberalism has tried to cure them of that.

Joe - After I looked up 'pejorative' I started thinking that maybe you are right.
Things can be too PC and this may be one of them.

hahaha Joe I 'was' referring to the PC Crowd. I heard a better name but I am sure it wouldn't get published.
True Joe Liberalism saving us from ourselves.

Joe, is it civil and neighborly to call someone by a name that the person finds offensive?

Joe said...

Robert D: Never saw you here before any way.
WYEL: Oh...I'm SO hurt.

Joe said...

DM: Well, I've been called things I didn't want to be called...sometimes by liberals thinking they're making a point.

I've been called ugly, fat, hateful, lazy, Baldy, Snake-Eyes, and many other things. Go ahead. Take your best shot. If you have already, you don't have much.

Nobody without the guts to name themselves will ever get through the comment moderation, Mr. Anonymous.

DM: "... are you purposely deciding not to answer a simple question?"

"...s it civil and neighborly to call someone by a name that the person finds offensive?"

Sure. Why not? See, your emotionally laden buzz words "civil" and "neighborly" are totally irrelevant to the post. The point is that the Redskins loved the Redskins until people like you started making them think that they didn't love them and tried to impose your own inferiorities upon them.

So now, you have to make me a list of things that I can or cannot say. You'll also have to revise the list regularly so we'll think like you do.

Joe surely you can see the difference between a personal insult and a national sports team which references skin color.

Yeah, we all take random personal insults at some point, it's life but when those insults are institutionalized it moves into an entirely different arena.

And regardless of what some of your posters say, it is Native American's prerogative to determine what is insulting.
I would agree that PC has been entirely too active in this matter ( a local HS who called their team the Sachems changed it. Don't know why, perfectly respectable) but there have been a couple on the national level that are real marginal.

The Cleveland Indians "Wahoo", which has been almost entirely retired and the Redskins.

Unfortunately when we don't deal with the stuff on the margins the tone gets more aggressive and much more innocent names become targets.

Ducky: "Joe surely you can see the difference between a personal insult and a national sports team which references skin color."

Actually "referencing" skin color is not the issue. People reference skin color all the time, rightly so. A robbery is committed and the witness omits that the robber was a tall white man. That constitutes an incomplete witness.

The Florida State Seminoles were once called on by idiots to delete the tomahawk chop. Trouble is, the overwhelming majority of fans would not let it go. So, we either have to let them do it, or empty the stands.

Until liberals pointed it out to them, Indians did not care one whit that the Washington team called itself the Redskins. They just didn't care. Liberals forced the issue upon them.

Your use of the term "surely" is a very emotionally laden form of arrogance that is not worthy of a person of intelligence.
