One of my favorite shows from the past was the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
It was hysterically funny and dealt with topics that were borderline taboo.
They dealt with those subjects through the use of misdirection, illustrating social ills and ignorance with commentary disguised as folk-songs.
They were actually quite on the edge of acceptability in their time and eventually, CBS cancelled the show.
Here's a song they did called "Crabs Walk Sideways and Lobsters Walk Straight." It was a song about race relations. CBS's censors almost refused to let then sing this song, but it did finally make the show.
See whether you can find the "hidden" race relations message.

But some still demand that they walk "straight". Little irony here, Joe?
Ducky: The rejection of anyone who is different is an anamatha to liberty.
In that "era," however, the major topic was race relations, hence the song.
