Ray Rice should be in jail. Roger Goodell should be left alone.

Ray Rice committed a crime. Roger Goodell did not commit a crime.

I heard a lady (yes, as unbelievable as it sounds...a lady) in an interview the other day almost crying because she thought Ray Rice should be given a "second chance." A second chance? To do what? To slug a woman again? He should be incarcerated awaiting trial.

Goodell, on the other hand, should not even be in the picture. He is not Ray Rice's conscience. He is not responsible for Ray Rice.

"But," you say, "The punishment he doled out was insufficient. Yes, it was. The punishment should have been doled out by the justice system and Ray Rice should be in jail. The NFL had absolutely nothing to do with what Ray Rice did. They are his employer, not his baby sitter.

If I slugged one of my co-workers (most of whom are women), where do you think I'd be? I'd be in jail and without a job. That where Ray Rice should be.

We've not heard a word from NOW, or NAACP or any other liberal organization about the atrocity to a woman or the fact that Ray Rice is a Black person. We have not heard the liberal press speaking out against what he did. We have only heard that Roger Goodell is somehow complicit in this incident. Hog-ever-lovin'-blue-eyed-wash!

When are we going to get our priorities straight as a nation? The answer is, of course, we are not. Our priorities have been deliberately changed little-by-little until they are almost unrecognizable. We demonstrate every day that mankind is totally depraved. It happens on a small scale at the office or at the bridge club and it happens nationally, as well as world wide.

Ray Rice should be in jail. Roger Goodell should be allowed to get on with his job as NFL Commissioner.

ISIS, ISIL OR IS

ISIS Demonstrates their
Level of Civility

In June of 2014, the Islamic militant group known as ISIS declared that it now prefers the name Islamic State (IS). The President BO (the amateur president) refers to it as ISIL. So is it ISIS, ISIL or IS?

In 1999 the militant group established by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi called itself “Al-Qaeda in Iraq.” It was part of Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network, the one that attacked the US in the 9/11 Twin Towers collapse. The group has operated under several names. Its current leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, insisted that it is now to be called the Islamic State.

If you spoke Arabic, you would refer to them in the Arabic language as “Al-Dawla Al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham, or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham. The term “al-“Sham” refers to a region stretching from southern Turkey through Syria to Egypt (also including Lebanon, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Jordan).

The common English designation of this territory is “the Levant.” That is ostensibly why President BO (tap) refers to them as ISIL. This way, he does not have to use the letter that stands for Syria, the last “S” in ISIS. Because PBO (tap) refused to send troops into Syria to intervene in their civil war, he prefers not to refer to them at all.

The Obama administration claims to believe that “Levant” (“L”) is a more accurate translation of the Arabic name. Linguists disagree, but he doesn’t care. In his usual narcissistic way, he’ll call them what he pleases.

So, ISIS is the correct translation of the first three words of Al-Dawla Al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham. “al-Sham” is a reference to Syria and its surrounding region.

ISIL refers to the undefined region surrounding Syria, but does not refer to Syria itself. ISIL includes Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine and Jordan. The militants want their control to extend beyond Iraq.

IS, the Islamic State, represents the militant group’s desire to be the main “nationality” that rules that part of the Middle East. They seek to become the country referred to when the rest of the world mentions the Middle East.

Many Muslims reject the notion of an “Islamic State,” stating that ISIS (ISIL/IS) is neither Islamic nor a State. They want IS to change its name to something more descriptive of who 

they really are. That is probably not going to happen.

The clearly stated goal of ISIS/ISIL/IS is to restore a caliphate (an Islamic State) in the entire area. They have also recruited more and more people to build toward this goal, including Americans. Why Americans would reject the benefits of America, including the relative peace enjoyed here, to join a vulgar, uncivilized, barbaric would-be country like ISIS is open to question.  

Whether they are called ISIL, ISIS or IS, this group is growing in number and is developing the capability to wreak havoc around the world, including the United States. They need to be permanently deleted.

With proper leadership, the US and its willing allies could accomplish that with the same degree of success it won Desert Storm. The press and the world trembled when we too on that project, stating often that we were crazy to take on the “third most powerful military in the world.” Our resolve there was total, and we accomplished the task in short order. We could almost as easily accomplish the annihilation is ISIS if we wanted to.

For whatever reason, we don’t.

Well, let me enlighten you.

They might call themselves by different names, but their ideology is the same and they will one day work together to assault the U.S.

They are in the Middle East, Africa, The Philippines, South America and more and more in Europe and the U.S. The day will come when we will wish we had annihilated them...but we won't. 

And we know, of course that these people are not really capable of inflicting any real harm on American soil.

OK, so was Obama's timing right? Was it an ill advised move, dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States?

Did the move start the march to the surrendering of Iraq to Al Quaeda?

Did mass killings follow our leaving Iraq? Have there even been beheadings?

Have the terrorists established a safe haven in Iraq?

Does it look like American troops might have to return to Iraq to combat the likes of ISIS?

Is ISIS even more dangerous than Al Quaeda?

Guess who predicted this would be the result of an early withdrawal of our troops from Iraq.

After finally choosing to view the barbaric, on-camera beheading by ISIS of freelance war correspondent James Foley, I have been left with a level of rage known only to those of us who have sacrificed unspeakable offerings on the altar of world peace.

My offering was my only son — Aaron Carson Vaughn. Aaron was a member of SEAL Team VI. He was killed in action when a CH47D Chinook, carrying thirty Americans and eight Afghans was shot down in the Tangi River Valley of Afghanistan on Aug. 6, 2011.Many times over the past three years, I have been asked what drove my son to choose his particular career. What made him want to be a Navy SEAL? My answer is simple.

Aaron Vaughn was a man who possessed the courage to acknowledge evil. And evil, once truly acknowledged, demands response. Perhaps this is why so few are willing to look it in the eye. It is Much simpler — much safer — to look the other way.

That is, unless you are the leader of the Free World.

As Commander-in-Chief, your actions — or lack thereof — Mr. President, cost lives. As you bumble about in your golf cart, slapping on a happy face and fist-pounding your buddies, your cowardly lack of leadership has left a gaping hole — not only in America’s security — but the security of the entire globe. Your message has come across loud and clear, sir: You are not up to this job. You know it. We know it. The world knows it.

Please vacate the people’s house and allow a man or woman of courage and substance to seize the reigns of this out-of-control thug-fest and regain the balance we, America, have provided throughout our great history.

Thanks to your “leadership” from whatever multi-million dollar vacation you happen to be on at any given moment, the world is in chaos. What’s been gained, you’ve lost. What’s been lost, you’ve decimated. You’ve demolished our ability to hold the trust of allies. You’ve made a mockery of the title “President.” And you’ve betrayed the nation for which my son and over 1.3 million others have sacrificed their very lives.

But this should come as no surprise, since your wife uttered a vile statement on Feb. 18, 2008, during the primary campaign — one that speaks volumes of your true convictions. “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country,” she said.

I am sure my deceased son thanks you for that, Mrs. Obama. Oh, and you’re welcome.

Never in my lifetime have I witnessed such despair and such growing fear that the world’s last best hope, America, has finally been dismantled. Perhaps the better word is transformed — fundamentally transformed. Come to think of it, it’s become difficult — if not impossible — to believe things haven’t gone exactly as you planned, Mr. President.

Amazingly, in five short years, your administration has lurched from one disaster to another. You spearheaded the ambitious rush to end the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan — with no plan on how to do so effectively. Also, the release of “the Taliban five” in exchange for one American — without consulting Congress — is also on your shoulders.

You have been at the helm during unprecedented national security leaks — including, but not limited to the outing of SEAL Team VI on the Bin laden raid, the outing of the Pakistani doctor who provided the intelligence for that raid, the outing of Afghanistan’s CIA station chief, and the outing of your personal “kill list” to make you look tough. In addition, 75 percent of American deaths in Afghanistan and 83 percent of Americans-wounded-in-action have occurred on your watch, according to icasualties.org.

And now, we have this recent, heinous event: the beheading of an American citizen by a barbaric organization you foolishly referred to as “the JV team” in your statements to the New Yorker magazine in January.

You, sir, are the JV team. It’s time for you to step down and allow a true leader to restore our honor and protect our sons and daughters.

America has always been exceptional. And she will be again. You, Mr. President, are a bump in our road.
